There was little sense of comfort or familiarity to be found upon Veronica's first steps onto the Bellefonte Academy campus in over a decade. She'd only spent a year at the Academy before fully giving in to her restless wanderlust and began a semi-nomadic existence, bouncing around the United States with little rhyme or reason. Even the thought of reconnecting with her sisters brought about fewer thoughts of contentment and family and more worries of potential awkward tension. Naturally, Veronica was prepared, after all, if this had been so simple it wouldn't have fit with the rest of her life.
After new employee orientation Veronica looked up the student dorm directory and quickly found her sister's name. She knew she was supposed to feel excited at just the mere idea of being close to her sisters though at this point it was more of a conscious realization as opposed to an instinctual emotion. As was the norm for the wayward Abbot sister minimal planning had gone into her latest move. She was less than a week removed from her 30th birthday and roughly a month from the last time she spoke with Fern. As far as the junior Abbot was concerned, Veronica was still living in the Bay Area and carefully piecing together a stable foundation.
With a myriad of worries, concerns and uncertainties weighing on her mind, Veronica trudged down the hallway leading toward Fern Abbot 's dorm room. Her dark hair was tied back in a loose, almost sloppy tail and her heavy, faux-fur lined coat swallowed her slender form. She glanced over her shoulder, her gaze following a trio of students walking by and for a brief moment Veronica considered turning around and following them out of the dorm. Against her better judgement she resisted the urge and continued forward.
When Veronica knocked on the door to Fern's dorm she hadn't expected it to open so quickly or that it would be her little sister standing behind it. Even though she'd been looking forward to seeing Fern from the moment she drove by the 'Welcome to Kalispell' sign the night before seeing her again almost seemed a shock to Veronica. Her eyes lit up with a joy that belied the awkward, uncertain smile that flash across her features. "Uh." She started before exhaling sharply. "Hi."
