When she realized her foot had slipped, she screamed in fright as she went down. That was just a stupid and miscalculated move. She was doing so well and now this. However, she did not have time to scold herself because before she knew it, she landed nicely into a pair of strong arms that surprisingly wrapped softly around her.
"Oh thank god," she breathed out in relief, realizing she had not landed on the ground. With her hands on his shoulders, her eyes slowly looked up to him. For perhaps the first time, her immediate response was not to look away and she did not know why. Eyes blinked a couple times, mouth moved but no words came out.
Until the dog owner came. Lara Jean smiled and nodded. "Yep. Thanks to him, who lived up to his words," she said gratefully. "Thanks again...you can put me down now."
The girl looked at him. Sam looked down at her. He blinked, not quite looking way even as the dog owner spoke. It was only when Lara Jean asked to be put down that he realized that he'd been more or less standing still. Sam shifted then, helping her get back on her own feet, again moving far gentler than someone if his relative size and intensity should. He took a step back as he finished, figuring that the whole catching thing had made her uncomfortable.
"That was really impressive," he said, pointing overhead. "Less the fall," he looked back to her, "but more that you were willing to just head up there like that. It's admirable." He blinked again, turning to look away. This felt... awkward, and he wasn't quite sure why. Was this the point where he should just go?
The boy they'd helped was far more enthusiastic, again thanking them and saying how cool it had been. He'd turned to go when he seemed to realize something. He turned back and asked for their names.
"Samson," Sam replied after a second. "Most people just call me Sam."

Once he helped her to her feet, she smiled up at him. She was more relieved than uncomfortable about the whole falling and catching thing. But in the end, just sitting in his arms like that she thought might have been weird.
Impressive? Lara Jean chuckled. If he knew the actual reason why she had climbed up there was to clear her conscience, she thought he might not have thought it to be so admirable. Though she was not going to tell him that. "Hey, when else are you going to get a chance to climb a tree to retrieve a frisbee right?" she said, surprising herself at the genuine cheerful tone of hers. "Plus, you were admirable too. Charging in like that to save him. Didn't see anyone else coming to help him."
As the dog owner thanked and praised them again, the seventeen year old girl could only smile and nod her head. It seemed like the boy rarely had people helping him which she found to be sad and it reminded her a little of her brother.
"Lara Jean," she replied after Sam. "Well I guess I should head back now..." There was not anything else now was there? "Have fun with your dog, and thanks again Sam." She flashed a grateful smile at him before turning around to start heading back to the academy, completely forgetting about her camera.
Sam nodded. He did sort of see what Lara Jean meant there and all. he just knew that strange things happened all the time around here; he'd done more odd things in a few months than he'd done in his entire life. As for the second bit, about he himself was impressive, there Sam just shrugged.
"Did what anyone would do," he said. This of course was met by some tittering by the owner, but Sam was pretty well past that at this point. He did manage to catch the girl's name when she offered it, and he raised a hand to wave her farewell when she turned to go. From there, Sam stood still for a few more seconds, first to watch Lara Jean head off for a bit, then just sort of to take in everything that had happened.
It wasn't until he turned back to the tree that he noticed the camera. Sam hurried over and grabbed it, picking it up and examining it. This was Lara Jean's, right? He'd seen her holding it. He turned, wondering if he still had the time to go catch her or if she was too far gone.

Today had been a strange day. She definitely did not think she would be helping someone free a frisbee waking up that morning. Plus, it was still early in the day. She cannot wait till she tells Lister and hear what he has to make of it. But for now, Lara Jean wanted to head back to her dorm and watch a movie.
After walking out of the park, she was waiting for the bus when she realized her camera was not with her. She wanted to take a picture of the elderly couple holding hands across the street, her hand did not feel the cold metal at her side that she was used to.
Hurriedly, she walked back into the park and back to the tree where she had last seen Sam before they parted ways. A huge smile appeared on her face when she saw him holding the camera. "Oh thank god," she said in relief. She walked briskly towards him, hoping he did not decide to look at the pics she took.

Sam held still for a while, wondering if he should leave and try to catch her or what. He moved the camera in his hand, knowing that sometimes people put names or other information on labels to help find these sort of things easier. He didn't immediately see anything, but he might just not have been looking properly.
Fortunately, the girl seemed to have come back for it. Her relief nearly made Sam smile, but he certainly nodded and walked toward her, holding out the camera. "You left it," he offered by way of explanation. Feeling like he owed her at least a little more, Sam did continue: "I was looking to see if you had any information on it or anything, to get it back to you. Kind of realized that I didn't know anything besides a name."
He shrugged, not sure what else he could really add to that. He looked at the girl, then at the camera, and he had this feeling like maybe he should be asking her for something more than her name? But why?
Wait, did he... want to ask her out?
Sam held the camera out a little more, as if hoping it could just solve the various problems here.

You left it. She nodded. The girl could not agree more. "To be honest, I have to say this is a first for me," she said a little embarrassed. Lara Jean could not think of a reason as to why she would have forgotten it. It was not just another equipment. She considered it like it was an extension of her because it helped her so much to get through the day when she was first getting used to her power and yet she had left without a thought about it.
A soft laugh escaped her in reply. "Oh yeah...that's true. I should probably fix that." If leaving her camera behind was to happen again, some contact details should be placed. She accepted her camera from him with a smile. She stayed there a few moments longer, thinking there might be anything else he might want to ask. But then she felt awkward just standing there.
"Well erm okay. Thank you...again. Seriously. I'm glad it was you who found it hah. Guess I'll go now," she said, pointing in the direction she came from. "Wouldn't want to miss the bus. So see ya around?"

Sam quirked a brow as the girl admitted to this being a first. For some reason, that struck him as unlikely. Then again, she did have the camera, and the way she took it made it seem like it was nearly a part of her, so close that she couldn't imagine life without lugging that thing around. Sam did know some people got attached to stuff like that, even if he wasn't one.
he nodded as she took it, along with his advice. There was still a few moments after where Sam had this feeling, yet again, that he should be asking or doing something. It was almost like some sort of force was insisting upon it for some reason. He frowned for a few seconds, which might have explained the whole thing and all. Bus. Did he have to take that? not really; he could walk back to the school and usually preferred the exercise.
"Number," he finally said, taking a step forward. "I mean, would you mind giving me yours?" Sam paused for a reason, trying to think up a good reason before landing somewhere close to the truth: "In case I want to see you again."

When it came down to small talks, the girl really did not do well in that and standing there like that, a small part of her felt that she had to say something. It always seemed easier in the movies. So she opted to make her leave, thinking it would save them both from having to prolong the awkward silence that she was feeling.
Just as she was about to walk off, he spoke. Lara Jean felt a mixture of surprise and flattery at what he was asking. "Oh, number? Oh oh OOUH phone number, right, yes. And no, I do not mind. Erm, got a pen and paper or something?" she asked, ready to give it to him.
Sam was actually used to the whole silence thing. He probably could've stood silently for quite some time without really feeling nervous or anything. However, even he could feel some of the awkwardness here, and it only seemed to continue even after he spoke. The question had clearly caught her by surprise, and Sam found himself almost wondering himself.
Pen and-- seriously? Sam arched his brows for a moment, reached into his pocket, and pulled out his cell phone. "Will this work?" he asked, before punching in the security code and handing it over to her. "Because I don't usually carry pen and paper around with me." It was almost surprising that he had the phone, to be honest. But his parents sometimes wanted to call him, and he knew he could be hard to reach if he left the school, so...

Her eyes widen at the sight of the phone. Right - of course! It was very old fashion of her to have asked for a pen and paper. Earth to Lara Jean, almost every teenager now had a handphone. "Yes, that uh would definitely work," she replied, mentally kicking herself.
She took the phone from him, opened his contacts and punched in her number then saving it under 'Lara Jean'. "Alright, so here you go," she said with a smile as she handed his phone back to him.
She was about to ask him to do the same, but then thought if he wanted to see her, he would do something about it and she would hear back from him. "I gotta go now. The bus might be here already," she said, pretty much as an excuse. "So erm call me or whatever." She let out a small laugh before turning around to head out the park. On the way, she turned around and gave Sam a goodbye wave before continuing on her way. Maybe she would see him again?
Sam nodded as the girl said that the whole phone thing would work. She took it, so it must have more or less worked there. Sam studied the name as it appeared "Lara Jean." Wait, she'd said that earlier, hadn't she? Sam should've picked up on that. He nodded at the phone before sliding it into his pocket.
"It might," Sam said, regarding the bus, nodding again. The last bit had him nodding once more. He could almost vividly recall a few girls asking that, but, well, he'd initiated this one. Plus, how often did you meet a girl who was willing to help wrangle a dog from some bullies and then clamber up a tree to go hunting down a frisbee?
Sam saw some motion and jerked his head up just in time to see the wave. He raised a hand at that, smiling and giving it a short one of his own. He then tapped the phone, considering. He didn't generally but...
"I like her,' he said, mostly to himself, before nodding and turning to wander around the park a little more.
