Sam watched as, yet again, the teenagers, technically he should be calling them "fellow teenagers," at the park picked up the kid's Frisbee and started taunting him with it. The kid had a dog, but the dog couldn't do what dogs would often do in cases like this. For one thing, the teens were all but counting on it. For another, the boy clearly was more concerned about the dog than the frisbee.
Sam started for them, moving with his usual confidence, trusting the size and raw menace he exuded to work. It half did. The teens took off running, but as Sam started to chase after them, they flung the Frisbee off into a tree. At the same time, the dog broke free of the boy. Said boy started shouting for someone, likely Sam, to grab the dog or even the disc.
in that moment, Sam paused. He stared at the teems, and he stared at the dog, and he knew he couldn't get both, likely couldn't get the teens and the disc. And in that moment, Sam wasn't sure which course of action to take...

On a bench far from them, Lara Jean had her camera out taking photos of the scene playing out. Looking at her shots, she smiled. Now, was she a bad person to be taking pictures instead of helping the poor boy? Maybe, but that's debatable. She was not a fierce looking mongrel, no less than that dog was, so she knew she would not be of any help. Thankfully, the guy advancing towards them later sorta did.
Realizing whatever that would happen was not something she wanted to miss, Lara Jean continued snapping away. She wondered if it would lead to a fight...so far, no physical contact had been made. She stared at the boy who had suddenly stopped running. It took her a moment to realize his dilemma. The girl groaned internally, she was hoping he would go chase after those teens.
In that moment, she felt something jumped on her. "Oh god," she shouted when her camera almost slipped out of her hands thanks to the mutt who was trying to lick her face. The owner shouted something about holding the dog. She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I got your dog!" Lara Jean shouted in reply.

I got your dog! Sam shifted, seeing a girl waving her hands, and he knew that she would be able to handle it alright. He spared only another second to nod at her before taking off, moving with the speed of a track runner after the teens. They quickly realized that their plan wasn't going to quite work like they wanted, and they tried to hurry. Unfortunately for one of them, he tripped. The others paused for a moment, which was all Sam needed.
He wasted no time going in, outright tackling one of the larger ones to the ground. Sam could feel the vibrations building up his own strength, and he channeled it as he moved to put his foot down on the one who had fallen, pinning him.
"I believe you owe someone an apology," he said, his voice hard as his eyes swept the now trembling teens. Sam then spared a glance over his shoulder, curious as to whether the girl had managed her end of things. If she did, surely she and the boy would be coming up to join Sam pretty soon.

It was not an easy feat to get the dog off her, especially since her camera was threatening to kiss the ground but once she managed it, she stood up angrily. Realizing the owner was not going to come and collect it, Lara Jean slung the camera strap over her shoulders and walked the dog to the boy.
On the way, she noticed the other boy had gone after the teens. Dammit. She had hoped for it and wanted to catch it on camera. Doing so now would probably be weird especially since there was this - mutant? mundane? - boy who would be sure to question her actions.
But the closer they came, the more her fingers itched to snap a pic. In the end, she lost the fight and took a photo of the fallen boy. Then her camera turned to the boy on top of him. "Say cheese!" she said cheekily.

Cheese? Sam looked at the girl's camera, his expression mostly blank, obviously not quite believing what he was hearing and seeing. He guessed it made some sense, evidence and all. Or maybe she was someone who just enjoyed taking pictures. She'd gotten the dog, at least, and the owner was coming up as well.
The teen beneath Sam's shoe squirmed, clearly not comfortable, and likely doubly so now that a fairly cute girl had seen his situation. The movement caught Sam's attention, and he looked down at again, leaning just a little. Not enough to really hurt, but enough to make the guy wince. His friends, a girl and a guy, were exchanging looks. Finally it was the girl who blurt out an apology, insisting that they hadn't meant anything by it or anything.
Sam leaned a little more, and an apology popped out of the guy underneath them. With that, he turned to the victim, but the boy was apparently satisfied. Soon the teens would be scurrying off, leaving Sam with the two, and a still treed frisbee.

A slight frown touched her lips as she looked over at the photo she had taken. See, this was precisely the reason why she preferred candid over posed ones. The guy obviously had not been counting on this. Shaking her head, she let it go.
When it was just the three of them left - well four, counting the dog - Lara Jean stared at a tree in the direction of the scurrying away teens. "What jerks," she said what she thought was probably the most appropriate thing to say then as an innocent bystander who was dragged into the situation because a dog jumped on her.
"That was pretty cool, what you did...But uh what did they actually do? Something about a...frisbee?" she said, playing dumb as if she totally had not been taking pictures of the whole thing since the beginning.

Sam nodded at Lara Jean's assessment of the guys. Jerks fit them all too well, and they were now scurrying off very much like the cowards that Sam had believed them to be from the beginning. He still kept an eye on them, though his gaze drifted toward the pretty little girl and the boy.
"Bit more than that," Sam offered, turning to look at the tree. The dog owner was quick to agree, and to supply a colorful version of the story that involved those guys regularly going after him and his dog and the problems that came from that and how Sam and Lara Jean had just been awesome to come in and help him and how it did suck that his Frisbee was stuck in the tree.
Needless to say, he was quite talkative.
Unlike same, who walked over to the tree. He was tall, nearly six foot, but he didn't see any immediate branches to pull himself up. Plus, he wasn't certain that the tree could hold his weight, or where the Frisbee had really landed. Which made him a poor choice to find it.
Thankfully, there was someone else present: "You want to help?" he asked Lara Jean, looking to her. He jerked his thumb up the tree. "I can boost you up, and you could get the Frisbee down. If you fall," he shrugged, "I guess I'll just have to catch you."

Most of the time the boy spoke, Lara Jean kept her gaze downwards. She could look at him in the beginning but when he started on about how awesome they were, she felt a little guilty on what she had done. So probably to ease her conscience, the girl followed the two boys to the tree.
Looking up, she could easily spot where the frisbee had landed thanks to her eyes. It looked kinda high... Her head jerked to the boy when she realized he was talking to her. Uh oh. She nodded along as he spoke. "Um yeah sure!" The owner of the frisbee beamed at her enthusiasm.
"Ha ha, ooookay so let's do this." Lara Jean placed her camera by the tree trunk before turning to the boy who offered to boost her up. "Be warned, I don't usually climb trees," - more like never - "so I might take a while up there."
The girl didn't look directly at him. Sam was somewhat used to that: he knew he intimidated people and had this whole overwhelming thing. There was also a slight chance that she was racist or something, but he wasn't immediately jumping to that; simply considering it to be a possibility. the girl was looking up at the tree soon enough, and hat was the end result he'd been aiming for.
When the girl got into position and started protesting, Sam had to smile a little. "Don't worry," he said. "I'll help you get started, and we've got plenty of time. Like I said: you fall, I'll catch."
With that, he moved a little closer to the tree, placing a hand against it and looking for the nearest branch. There did seem to be a few that would be pretty good, but it would really be up to her. "Let me know which one you want," he said, nodding, "and do you want me to cup my hands or just pick you up or...?" Sam knew that some people, girls especially, wouldn't be too comfortable with his just grabbing them around the waist and lifting. he was pretty sure he could manage, particularly with her as she seemed pretty small, but it was still the principle of the thing.

Oh god, Lara Jean had no idea why she just said that. She did not have experience climbing trees except for that two or three times when she was little and had done it on a dare. Her nerves calmed after hearing the boy's reassuring words.
Her eyes looked him up from head to stomach, quickly averting her gaze from going anywhere lower, she cracked a little smile. "Okay..." Yep, he looked like he could catch her. He did help out a stranger, so he was not going to let some girl fall now would he? She trusted him.
"Oh, erm just pick me up," she replied before she could ponder too much on it. "It would be less likely for me to fall at first," she added amusingly. Now if she fell before she even started climbing, that would be hilarious and embarrassing. After a few more seconds of inspecting the tree, Lara Jean made up her mind. "That could work," she said pointing up to the branch. She turned back to face the boy. "Ready?"
Sam was used to people looking him over by now. He was tall; he glowered; and most of the time he was unpleasant to deal with. He just didn't care. The girl did it now, and, well, he simply went along with it. When she said to just pick her up, he nodded, then hit himself a few times on the chest, boosting up his power in what he was sure would be an almost comical manner.
Thus boosted, he stepped forward. There was a bit of a pause while he waited, looking to the girl. She claimed readiness, and he nodded. His arms gently circled about her hips, careful to just grip her soft enough not to hurt anything. with his strength active, there was always that urge to go all out. Sam simply channeled the energy into picking her up; though he didn't think he needed it. The girl went up, and he extended his arms, giving her easy access to the branches.
"Let me know when you're ready," he said, his voice as calm as ever.

Him hitting his chest a few times issued a smalle laughter out of her because it reminded her of King Kong. "You..." she caught herself before she could continue. "Nothing." Nawh, now probably was not a suitable time to blurt something like that. Plus, it might just be something he does to psyched himself or whatever.
When his arms were around her hips, Lara Jean took a sharp intake of breathe. "It's fine," she informed. Not that it hurt, but rather oh my god here goes nothing. She locked her gaze on the branch. The boy was close, and she was not used to seeing someone that close.
Once he lifted her up, she reached out to grab the branch she wanted. Lara Jean had a good grip on it and she knew there was another branch lower and not far away where she could plant her foot as she hoist herself up. "Okay, I think I'm ready."
Sam knew it looked weird and all, but he also half figured that she'd just chalk it up to mutant powers or something. They were at a school for mutants and surely she'd seen weirder things. So he just focused on lifting her up. That breath made him pause for a moment, but she assured him it was fine. He still couldn't quite help but hesitate, but he eventually had her scrambling up into the tree.
Sam kept near the trunk, looking up and somewhat glad (and to his surprise, a little disappointed) that the girl had on pants and that he didn't have to worry about anything in that regard. "Alright," he said, nodding. "Just look around. The Frisbee can't be too high," the boy and his dog had approached. Boy looked; dog simply started running around, obviously finding this to be quite a fun game. "Don't be stupid," Sam added.
He was already shifting to keep track with the girl, his eye steady on her. If she did fall, he had every intention of catching her. His ability should absorb most of the shock and all. Wait, he wasn't hoping she fell, did he? His brow crinkled for a moment, but he literally shrugged it off. Just his doubts, surely.

Once he let go of her,she hoisted herself up like she intended. She wrapped her arms around the tree and took a couple deep breaths first, Lara Jean was proud of herself to not have fallen. Maybe she was overthinking it. Maybe climbing a trees was not such a difficult task?
However, that was just the beginning. She looked up and her eyes could see where the frisbee was, though it was hidden behind a couple branches. "Yeah erm I think I see it," she called out to him. Disappointingly, she was not close enough to just reach out for it. So Lara Jean took hold of another branch to get closer to it. She took her time and it paid off. "Get ready for it!" hollered the girl as she shook the branch to free the frisbee After a couple of times, she heard a thud hit the ground. That must have been it. Looking down, it was. She smiled.
The dog was barking and she figured it was happy to have its toy back. The seventeen year old felt good too Caught in the moment, Lara Jean misjudged just how far her foot should have went because by the time her hands let go of the only support she had, her foot stepped on the air sending her falling down. She screamed.
Sam nodded, glad that the girl had at least located the frisbee. That was definitely something to their advantage right about now. He heard it falling down and kept an eye on it, mostly to make sure that it didn't end up landing on him as it did. The boy caught it, the dog went almost right for it, and there were thanks headed that way. Sam had started to nod, but he did remember that the girl was still up in the tree.
Thus Sam managed to look up at just the right time to see Lara Jean's missing foot. "Got you!" he yelled, before diving into position. He'd been pretty much on the way anyway, and now he managed to get under her. Assuming there wasn't a lot of flailing, Lara Jean should simply fall right into Sam's arms. In fact, his power would absorb most of the impact of the fall, making it feel fairly feather light and safe, not that far removed from a hug, actually.
"Are you okay?" the question came not from Sam, but from the dog-owner, who'd come running as soon as he saw what was happening, dog close at his heels.
