Samson Elijah Abioye
FACE CLAIM: Donald Glover
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 17
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: High School Student - Bellefonte♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Kinetic Absorption
Samson can absorb kinetic energy that passes through his body. Instead of it simply going through him or damaging his body, he gathers more and more of it up within his body. In the immediate, this will often grant him superstrength, as he channels the energy into his own body for momentary bursts of power that last in connection with the amount of energy he gathers.
If he sustains a great amount of kinetic energy in one way or another, it can build up to the point where it needs to be released in the form of a “burst.” This is usually simple a great burst of momentum that erupts from him, usually directed, but if he doesn’t do so normally, it will burst out of him in some form or another.
LIMITATIONS:
- As of right now, Sam can only lift at the maximum of peak human strength, just bordering on what’s often considered super-strength. For him, this is roughly 800 pounds of lifting. If he gets enough power to go higher than that, it comes out in the burst.
- His bursts come out at 2/3 strength of whatever their equivalent would be in strength when left off undirected. Directed force dips down to half the strength.
- Sam must retain kinetic energy in direct conjunction to the amount he releases.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- This power almost always tears at Sam’s body, particularly his muscles. He’s frequently injured.
- Too much release of energy can leave Sam feeling physically exhausted.
- If the burst of energy is too great, it can cause major damage to Sam’s internal systems. His largest burst to date caused his heart to stop for a few moments.
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 5’10”
HAIR COLOR: black
EYE COLOR: brown
MISC: there’s the superhero costume, but otherwise…
PERSONALITY: Sam takes life incredibly seriously. He firmly believes that everyone has a purpose and a goal that they should be following. It’s incredibly rare to see him laughing or even smiling or taking anything jovially. Jokes often go right by him; it’s not that he doesn’t understand them, he just doesn’t seem to have any sense of humor. He does have an extreme sense of drive and a sense of right and wrong.
Sam does understand that the world isn’t fully in black and white, though sometimes that’s hard to initially tell. He often does what he firmly believes is right and stands by that conviction. This sometimes comes across as determination, but sometimes goes into the realm of stubbornness.
Whenever Sam has spare time, he can be seen training. He believes that his power was granted to him as part of some sort of greater purpose. Thus he continually trains to find himself worthy of it. He will often spurn those who don’t hone their ability and work, and he looks down on anything he considers laziness (and considering that drive…)
SECRET(S): nope; nothing major♦ THE HISTORY ♦
Samson’s family life was fairly strict, but not without some love. His parents were big fans of discipline and instilled in their children a great work ethic and a strong moral compass, based loosely on some standard Christian principles, but sort of drifting into a more universal standard of what is good versus what is evil. Sam was the middle child of three. The children were allowed to have fun and were encouraged to get into sports, but this was also balanced out with a good deal of volunteering, particularly with the church.
It was during one of these times that Sam manifested. At fourteen, he was doing some work upkeeping a local church when one of the wheelburrows filled with cement got out of control. It would’ve run over a little old lady who had been working on tending the flowers near a church sign if Sam hadn’t gotten in the way. He’d been sacrificing himself to help, figuring he’d end up in trouble. To everyone’s surprise, he not only seemed to be fine, but seemed stronger than ever.
It took a few weeks for the recruiters to come find Sam’s family. They were in denial initially, insisting that their child had been part of a miracle or something along those lines. Eventually the recruiters proved that Samson was a mutant, and from there, he was escorted with his parents’ blessing to Bellefonte.
Since arriving, Sam has dedicated himself wholeheartedly to training his abilities. His belief that his ability means he’s destined for some higher purpose has pushed him to the limit regarding his training, often expanding it. Thus he has a great deal of training relative to his power level. Physically, he’s near the peak condition for someone his age. He has some dedication to his studies. He hasn’t gathered many friends, as he’s almost rude to people that aren’t strongly dedicated to developing their power. Only recently has he seemed to get some more interaction…♦ THE PLAYER ♦
