Dominic’s mood was constantly changing, but the closer they got to Christmas the more lonely he felt, a lot of people were going to spend the day with their families, Dominic’s plan was to lock himself in his room and wait until the day was over. To try and relax he decided to put on a movie and make some popcorn. Instead of going to his bedroom, he stayed in the dorm on the couch.
He was about to start the movie when he glanced over at the door to his new roommate’s bedroom, maybe he should ask him to join? It couldn’t hurt right? If they were going to live this close together they should try and get to know each other and if he was lucky, he’d turn out to be a cool guy.
Dominic got up from the couch and knocked on the bedroom door, once it opened he awkwardly said “Hey, I take it you’re Eric? I’m Dominic, your roommate” He rubbed the back of his head “I was about to watch a movie and I figured since we haven’t really met yet, I’d ask if you want to join?”
Eric was unpacking what little supplies he brought with him. Why did he get dragged here so close to Christmas? Okay... so he didn't have anywhere to go anyway, but still! He shouldn't be wrapped up in a hole like this. Then again, he came here practically willingly. Truth be told, he didn't really want to be here. With a sigh, Eric finished unpacking and flopped onto his bed. Not long after he did so, there was a knock on his door. Getting up, he was greeted by who he presumed was his roommate. That fact seemingly being confirmed as the other boy spoke.
"Yes, I'm Eric." Eric responded bluntly. He didn't really care that this guy's name was Dominic, nor did he care about the movie offer. But since he made the effort, Eric might as well put some effort into this as well. "Alright, fine. I'll join you for a movie." Eric shrugged nonchalantly. Okay... so his effort may be a little more... well... blunt. But hey, he agreed right? It was better than saying no, and getting annoyed every five minutes. "Before we do start though." Eric's expression turned to one more serious than before. "I have a few rules. No going through my stuff, no touching my stuff, no using my stuff without asking, if I'm in the bathroom, don't come in until I'm finished, you replace what you use, I replace what I use. And lastly, no physical contact. At all. I need a space of at least half a meter." Eric listed off rather bluntly.
"If we're clear on that, then let's go watch this movie." Eric exited his room, closing his door. He made his way to the lounge and sat down, waiting for his roommate to come and start the movie. He didn't particularly care what they watched, since he didn't watch a lot of television anyway, even when living by himself. He only had his phone and that was enough.
Dominic was a bit suprised by the other boy’s attitude, he agreed to come but he didn’t seem to actually want to or care whether he did or not “You don’t have to if you don’t want to, just an offer.” He looked at him as he spoke and listed his rules “Hey that’s fine, I respect your stuff, you respect my stuff, I respect your privacy, you respect mine” He frowned a bit at the physical contact part, how many people in this school had problems with physical contact and how normal was it really for people to randomly touch each other? “Don’t worry, I do not plan on touching you” he looked a little confused.
Dominic followed and sat down “Uh huh, like I said, you don’t have to if you don’t want to” He got a weird vibe from this guy and he started regretting the offer. He put the movie on, it was just some random action movie. “If you want popcorn, there’s plenty” He nodded to the bowl on the table.
This guy was nothing like what Dominic had expected, he seemed weird and not like the friendliest or most social guy, he seemed a bit hard to read too. He hadn’t seemed interested at all, but he still had decided to join him and he just seemed way too serious and blunt. This could either lead to some mutual silent respect or to something really bad, Dominic hoped for the first part, but from the first impression he really doubted that he’d ask him to join again next time.
"I don't have anything better to do." Eric shrugged at Dominic. It was true, he had finished unpacking, and outside of that he had nothing at all to do. Besides, from the looks of it, the movie did seem kinda interesting. He's seen better movies, but honestly the movie was proving to be alright. He looked at the popcorn. He never really had popcorn before, but he didn't want to seem like an awkward idiot, so he took a small handful and ate one. It tasted weird. And buttery... with... salt? Who would put salt and butter together? He tried another one. It tasted the same. He wasn't sure if he liked it or not, and he was trying so hard not to look awkward that he ended up looking awkward anyway.
He just hoped that Dominic hadn't noticed, and was too focused on the movie to notice. There was no way he could explain why he'd never had popcorn before. He assumed it was a normal thing that everybody had tried and either liked or disliked, so it'd make things even more awkward and worse if Dominic had noticed his awkward struggle with the taste of popcorn.
”Fair enough” he shrugged, this guy would probably not be asked to join him again anytime soon with that kind of attitude. He glanced over at him, he seemed a little awkward as he ate the popcorn “What’s wrong?” Dominic asked “Not a fan of the popcorn?” He took a handful himself and ate some, he had experienced popcorn with way too much salt or way too little, but this seemed to be perfectly salted.
The movie was okay, watching movies wasn’t really a something Dominic did a lot, but sometimes he did get the urge to just sit down, relax and watch something. He wasn’t a huge fan of movies in general though, especially not watching any alone, it was something he’d enjoy doing together with friends, good company could make most movies a lot more entertaining, he wasn’t sure if Eric was helping this movie much at the moment though.
Eric stiffened a little when Dominic pulled him up on the popcorn. He lowered his eyes. "Its not that! Its uh... its... none of your business." Eric tried to hide a small embarrassed blush. Eric just focused intently on the screen, the movie starting to get worse at this point. "It's not that I'm a big fan of it.... I've never had it before. I've never had pizza, popcorn, soft drink... nothing like that... I've had ice cream but it makes me sick." Eric admitted in a small voice after awhile. His attitude seemed to swap between hot and cold.
