Adjusting

[Teagan Abbot]

New school, new job, new country. Teagan hadn't been in the United States for long, having graduated her Fall semester she had transferred to Bellefonte to pick up a job as the counselor for new recruits. She'd just gotten all of the paperwork dealt with, her things were finally all moved in and set up in the staff dorm for the time being until she could get an apartment of her own. She wasn't too disappointed with her living arrangements though because it meant she was closer to Fern.

Teagan was in her new office, organizing and decorating so that it suited her and her style of counseling. She wanted to make her students feel comfortable and at ease in a new and scary place. She also wanted to make it more comfortable for her because she'd never been to this country before. It wasn't hectic like she'd expected it to be. She huffed in frustration, the darn figurines on the desk just wouldn't stay still, one kept falling over, the other didn't fit well with the scene and she was just too exhausted from the jet lag to deal with it.

As if saved by the bell, Teagan heard a knock on the door and she turned around to see who was paying her a visit. She knew she didn't have any students yet and wouldn't for another few days. She'd met the other counseling faculty members briefly, but hadn't struck up anything good enough to result in a visit. Teagan had been keeping to herself as much as possible until she was settled and less frantic. When her eyes lifted to meet the eyes of her visitor, she let out a squeal and jumped around, "Fern!"

When Fern had made the decision to move away from England, she knew she would miss her sister, Teagan. Teagan had been such a huge part of her life and Fern hadn't been quite sure how she would get through her days without her older sister. Thankfully, it seemed as if Teagan too had needed something of a new change of scenery. When Fern had heard the news, she had been overjoyed.

Which also meant that she'd spent most of the night baking cookies so she could properly welcome her blonde counterpart. With the bowl of cookies in one hand, she used the other to knock on the door, feet tripping as she impatiently waited for the door to open.

Brown eyes lit up at the sight of her sister's glee, saving little energy to return the gesture. Fern almost forgot the bowl she was holding and with nothing but pure luck, she managed to save it from crashing against the floor. "Here," the brunette beamed. "Cookies!"

Teagan had all but rushed her sister, nearly paying no mind to the tray in her hands, yet when Fern pointed them out, she halted in her advance. "Cookies! They smell fantastic! You intend to make me into one of these fat Americans don't you?" She grabbed the tray from her younger sister and waved her in with the other hand, "Come now, have a seat!" After setting the tray down on the desk in the only empty spot that she could find, Teagan pulled her chair around next to the chairs that were meant for students. Before sitting, she did sweep her younger sister into a quick hug. It had felt like ages since she'd seen her last and finally being in the same country was so exciting for the blonde!

"Alright, alright, I'm finished with the sappy display," She released the younger Abbot and plopped down in her rolling desk chair, nearly sending herself flying back. She stopped herself with her feet firmly pressed to the ground and gave an embarrassed chuckle. "Okay, now, spill it! I want to hear all about how amazing your time has been here. Thoughts on your teachers, the other faculty, who I should stay away from, who I'll adore? I need details Fern, desperately. I'm so nervous to start!" Her words came in a whirlwind and she had to gasp for air once she was finished.

Teagan placed her hands in her lap, folding her fingers together and staring at her sister expectantly. While the two had talked on the phone, long distance, it hadn't been enough. The whole time apart had been maddening for Teagan and now that she was in the same room, not even a foot away from her younger sister, she felt like she was vibrating with excitement. She'd missed her so much.

"Yes," Fern replied without missing a beat, lips stretching into a grin. She then continued to do as she was told and looked around before deciding on a place to sit, but before she could actually do that, she felt her sister's arms around her, pulling her into a much needed embrace.

Once the embrace ended, Fern plopped down into one of the empty seats. Folding her hands together, Fern pulled her feet up underneath herself, making sure to kick off her shoes in the process. She stared at her sister directly, an almost apathetic expression forming on her face. Fern was not the kind of person you asked for those kinds of things. At all. "Well, uh," she began, licking her lips. "I heard someone talking about your co-workers, the other shrinks, I mean..." She shook her head. "One's an ex-army guy and one's apparently a cold fish, but very attractive. Uh, and then there's that Asian woman, but no one has much to say about her."

"You remember that girl from St. Bethany who was tutoring me? From the Sutherland family?" Sutherland was fairly known back in England. They were the ones running St. Bethany, after all. "She's attending Bellefonte now too, so that's nice."
