Alfred Lee Cheverell
FACE CLAIM: Max Barczak
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: Seventeen
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Gray Asexual, panromantic
POSITION: Student at Bellefonte♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Cold & Ice Manipulation
Alfred is able to slow the movement of electrons in atoms to cool the area immediately around him. When this is performed in the presence of water molecules, he can also create ice. He could, for example, create ice across the surface of a lake so as to cross it, or perhaps "air condition" his room or the area around him. Once ice has formed, he can manipulate it; this is frequently seen through the creation of still objects such as walls or ice sculptures. He cannot animate ice.
LIMITATIONS:
Alfred's ability is basically useless on hot, dry days. It's easier for him to use air that is already relatively cool, and he can only use pre-existing water molecules. His abilities are therefore strengthened during cold weather seasons and during the rain, or when humidity is high.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
Higher caloric intake is necessary for survival. Headaches and strain can accompany prolonged ice manipulation. Numbness occurs in the digits after prolonged usage of his abilities, spreading up his limbs if usage is long enough. Alfred is prone to occasional bouts of hypothermia, as he has difficulty regulating body temperature. His personality has also been affected.♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 6'0" (183cm)
HAIR COLOR: Blonde
EYE COLOR: Deep chestnut
MISC: He's got several moles on his porcelain face, and plenty more speckled across his back. There's a birthmark that covers the majority of his right hand, resembling a burn.
PERSONALITY: Alfred is notably bitter, which is somewhat ironic because salt typically melts ice. His primary language is sarcasm, his wit a biting one. He has a hard time accepting his lot in life and has yet to come to terms with the constant evolution of the world around him. This accompanies a cold and distant demeanor, which is plenty vain and condescending to scare off the faint of heart. The blonde is incredibly chilly and prefers not to socialize with most, though he will try his best when put into groups to work on a project.
The youth is intelligent with a knack for learning, though he has trouble venting this through speech. He prefers to write and express himself through the arts, like (ice) sculpting and cooking/baking. His emotions hold less sway over him than those of others, but he is conscientious and tries his damnedest to make others feel comfortable if they so much as make an effort toward getting to know him. That said, his personality is relatively static and he typically doesn't make exceptions for others. You need to melt all his barriers to get to the mushy ball inside, and he's not even that much mushier.
Once someone earns Alfred's trust and manages to get him to become fond of them, he's a decent fellow. He's still sarcastic, but he uses this aspect more for playing around. He shares his creativity with others, and would go out of his way to make sure they're feeling alright, despite his awkwardness with emotions. He's willing to be vulnerable and is a great listener, who tends to be faultlessly loyal to those who prove they are worthy of it.
SECRET(S): He always wears thick clothes just in case his ability goes awry. He doesn't wear deodorant (because he typically doesn't sweat), but he loves cologne. He doesn't like people touching his precious pouf of well-managed hair. He loves a hot shower. He loves winter landscapes. He has a general distaste for fire users; it's not fair that they're able to feel passion and he's void of it all. He longs for someone to whisk him away like in the fairy tales, but he's convinced himself that's a naive notion. He tries to call his mother every day, and misses time spent baking with his grandmother.♦ THE HISTORY ♦
Alfred was only conceived due to a medical "miracle", and he's been lead to believe that it was his conception that altered his DNA. His mother was not the most fertile of young women thanks to an accident that occurred in her childhood, something Alfie himself never learned about. She was artificially inseminated and the zygote that formed eventually developed into the little blonde cherub whom she loved with all her heart.
Alf was notably pampered as a child. He was raised by his mother and frequently spent time with his grandparents. Initially a brilliant and curious young lad, he was found around his grandmother's feet sopping up all the information he could. She was an incredibly patient old woman, and taught him this virtue as he aged. It was his grandfather who would bring warmth and light into his young life by stoking the fire and spinning marvelous tales of love and loss, tales that fully enraptured the impressionable youth.
As he entered school, Alfie was quick to make friends. He was bright, sunny, and sociable. It wasn't hard for him to get along with most children, as he was truly an altruist. This only fed into his developing ego, however, and as the cream floated to the top he developed a rather sour attitude that gave him the idea that he was better than those who were less well-off financially than the rest. His family was not incredibly wealthy, but it didn't matter; he wasn't dressed in "rags".
Elementary was fantastic for the small boy, who flourished. Everything was wonderful in his Michigan hometown. It wasn't until he was fourteen that puberty set in, and with the change in bodily hormones and developments, his mutant DNA was activated. Just before he started his freshman year of high school, he was sent to the hospitalized with hypothermia. It was a mystery as to why this had happened, as it was summer time, but it was incredibly hard to get the boy's body temperature to get back to normal. Shortly after, the recruitment staff from Bellefonte arrived and began to converse with his mother.
As Alfred was on the mend, he began to get further acquainted with his newfound abilities. The majority of this was not due to choice, however; the air around him seemed cooler, and he was always feeling cold. Even on 80 degree days, he wanted to wear sweaters. His mother introduced him to the recruiters and they all had a conversation, with all parties eventually reaching an agreement: for Alfred's sake, he would be sent to Bellefonte to finish his schooling and learn to cope with his mutation. Alfred was none too happy about this, but his bond with his mother would not allow him to protest her choices.
Bellefonte was truly terrifying for the young man. He'd never changed schools in his life and, after his powers were discovered and his sense of betrayal was aroused, he hardly felt up to making friends. It wasn't like people wanted to hang out with the weird cold kid, anyway. The boy found ways to avoid socialization and became the master at pushing others away, focusing on himself and self-betterment. He found solace in Montana's Winters, and buried himself in flashy knits his mother would send him. All the while he was learning and doing well at the Academy, provided he'd not made much effort to gain any friends. His self-esteem was low, and that's hardly been remedied to this day. His preening is the one thing that makes him happy.
Alfred is in his Junior year at Bellefonte and has a select few individuals who he is comfortable with addressing as "friend". He's not had any relationships to speak of, though he does tend to daydream about so-and-so every now and then. He tends to get shut out from most of the clubs he's been vaguely interested in, but persists due to his mother's encouragement. He's still a momma's boy, and holds her word above all others.♦ THE PLAYER ♦
