Pan 'Victoria' Normandy Banks
FACE CLAIM: Scarlett Johansson
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: Twenty-six
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
POSITION: Thoroughbred Trainer♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Empathetic Voice
Pan can influence the emotions of others through the use of her voice, more specifically, her singing. The effects of her voice depend on her own tone and intent, and the two factors must co-exist. For example, if her tone is joyful but her intent is to sadden an audience, the effect will be nullified and vice-versa. The nature and lyrics of a song also affect her powers, as a song about killing rabbits and mass murder will surely have a negative psychological impact on a person, even if sung with a joyful tone and with a soothing intent.
She cannot actively read the emotions of the people around her, Pan can only influence their emotions through her own desires. These influences are only temporary, typically lasting until the victim is touched by another external influence. So if she influenced someone to feel joy, and immediately after they witnessed their dog being hit by a bus, her abilities would be overcome by pain and sadness. Her singing is merely an outside influence, which can be overcome by stronger influences. It is however, powerful enough to override an individual's own emotions for a short amount of time.
Her abilities work on all sentient beings, including animals.
To be able to use her abilities Pan must be able to sincerely empathize with those around her. She cannot simply sing and pretend to be angry in order for her audience to, in turn become aggressive. Her own emotions must be genuine in order to touch others. Similarly, once her song is over the connection between Pan and the audience is broken. She has no power to direct their emotions or how they will act while under their influence, only able to present the emotion in its purest form.
She does have the ability to simply sing normally without infusing her music with any emotions, but it is incredibly difficult, since she is naturally a very emotive person. Due to this, she sometimes accidentally induces emotions onto others that accidentally hear her sing. Her control over her own abilities still need work.
LIMITATIONS:
- Her abilities can only be used through song, regular conversation will have no affect on others.
- Pan has no control over the actions of the people she influences, or the way in which they interpret her singing.
- She cannot implant any actual ideas or orders into the minds of her listeners.
- Her power is over her own voice, she does not have any interaction with those around her. Those that hear it are affected, she cannot direct her power specifically onto simply one person.
- Gagging Pan will neutralize her ability.
- People who cannot hear her sing or have their ears blocked are unaffected.
- It is very hard for her to 'turn off' her ability
- Pan must sincerely feel the emotions she wishes to impress on another for her ability to work
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Projecting is emotionally draining for Pan, since her songs feed off her own emotions in order to touch people.
- After a concert or a large length of time spent singing Pan is typically exhausted and has been known to simply fall unconscious with a nosebleed.
- If she sings too much Pan's voice suffers just as any other person's does, and she has the potential to strain or ruin her vocal cords.
- Projecting emotions sometimes seems to lessen her own emotional capacity, so far this has only been for short periods of time.- Projecting is emotionally draining for Pan, since her songs feed off her own emotions in order to touch people.

"Good morning Melbourne and welcome to our weekly Sunrise! We'll get to our weather in just a moment, but first a special interview from our international guest Pan Banks, renowned horse trainer speaking to us just days before the Melbourne Cup."-Applause. Camera pans to a black lounge on which Pan sits, reclining in a red crop-top-"Thanks Samantha, it's great being here today. Sorry I'm a bit late, your security had to give me a pat down because I tried to smuggle in some cap-guns I bought at the souvenir store."-Pan is sitting on the circular stage comfortably facing the panel of hosts.. Her dyed red hair is pulled back in a messy twist, though the tips are still her natural 'Banks' blonde. She doesn't appear to have made a large effort to appear as a 'professional' individual, but seems confident and comfortable.-
"Did they take them? That's a shame, we could have used some trademark 'Pan Excitement' around here.""Don't worry, they forgot to check my bra. I've got to practice for the races."-There is laughter as Pan pulls a small toy gun out of her bra and mock cocks it. The numerous leather and charm bracelets on her wrist jingle together.-
"You have two horses racing on Tuesday, Gold Rush and Surfer's Paradise. Are you confident of their chances?""I am super excited to see Surfer's Paradise run. This will be his Maiden race and hopefully everything goes according to plan. Gold Rush is an old pro; I'm hoping for a win."-Pan pulls her knees up and sits on the couch cross-legged, leaning forward intensely. Her knees poke through the tears in her skinny jeans-
"Well, that's what we like to hear from our own Melbourne trainer. Though I have noticed, your lead runner Shadow Dancer hasn't been entered this year. What was the decision behind that? ""It was a tough one, Sam. Shadow has been my best friend and an absolute star for years. Unfortunately this year she's suffered a few pretty bad setbacks, and in the end I decided not to push it. Don't worry, you'll see her around and raring to go next year."
"Well, that's a relief. Now I do have to ask, your relationship with your horses is almost uncanny. Some have even referred to it as magical. How do you juggle the positions of owner and trainer so easily?"-Pan laughs and nods cheerfully-
"I won't lie, I've always been good with animals. It runs in the family. It's a lot of work that I do, but I wouldn't trade it for anything""You're not kidding. Is it true that you've even stepped in at the last minute to ride your own horse in a race?""Well, that was a rather special case. I do have my jockey license, and there was an accident right before Shadow Dancer's rider went into the gates. If it were anyone but her I probably would have pulled the race, but that horse is something special, she wanted to run.""And you ended up winning, if I remember correctly.""We did! And it was the most terrifying time of my life."
"I certainly believe you. I do have to ask, some of your competitors later stated that they heard you singing during the race. Why would you possibly be doing that?""Well, and first let me say how hard it is to run a race and sing at the same time, that's just the way I work with horses. I sing to them, and it helps calm them down. I use the same method in all of my training as well. Honestly at that time I couldn't think of anything else to do. Singing was all I had."
"Well, you're certainly the first trainer I've heard of that sings bedtime stories to your racers, but whatever works. You've only just arrived in Australia after traveling around the world to race. Are you glad to be back?""I love Australia, I always have. After a while traveling around just gets exhausting, and it's hard on the horses too. I'm definitely looking forward to some sleep and some good races.""Interviews say you consider your home to be Australia, but you were born in Kalispell, Montana and grew up there, isn't that right?""It's kind of a personal matter, but I ran away from home when I was sixteen and moved to Australia. I managed to get by alright with the money I had saved up, until someone noticed my talent with horses and I made it big."
"You moved away from home so young? What about school? That can't have been easy.""Oh, I think I might have had an easier time teaching myself lion taming! But it was what I needed to do at the time. I was enrolled at the illustrious Bellefonte Academy, I simply pulled out and re-enrolled at an Australian academy after moving."
"Bellefonte Academy? That's a school that's been all over the news lately, even here. RoboticMelon asks 'Hey Syren, I'm fifteen and I secretly wish every night to wake up a mutant just like you. How did you know you were one?' What an interesting question, RoboticMelon.""Well RoboticMelon, it's gotta be in your genes. My abilities showed up by themselves when I was your age. I think I'd watched Pokemon a few too many times and tried to make my sister fall asleep by singing, just like Jigglypuff did. As I was singing, and seeing that it wasn't working, I grew sadder and sadder. When my baby sister burst into tears I figured there was something there. My whole family was kind of known for its 'mutant' thing so I jumped right on it, just in case it wasn't a fluke. A few weeks later I found myself at Bellefonte."
"You've clearly got guts and enthusiasm. What are your plans after this racing season has ended?"-Pan gets to her feet and straightens her mini leather jacket-"I've decided to return to Kalispell for a while, see the family again, it's been way too long. There's something about small towns, I just love them.""Well, I'm sure that will be great fun. Until then, that's enough for today. Good luck in the races Pan Banks, we'll see you there!"♦ THE PLAYER ♦
