Lincoln Alexander Fitzpatrick
FACE CLAIM: Colin O'Donoghue.
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 36
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Unsure
POSITION: Psychologist/Guidance Counselor @ Bellefonte Academy♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Power Suppression and Power Sensing
Power Suppression
Lincoln has the ability to suppress the powers of other mutants within a certain range. This means that while Lincoln focuses on someone's ability, they won't be able to access or use it. The more focus Lincoln is able to place, the better he is at suppressing it. This is usually a process that is fought out through the power of will - at least if the receiver doesn't want their powers suppressed. Lincoln places a sort of "wall" against the connection of the nerves going from the brain to the rest of the body, and thus, temporarily stopping the connection the brain has to the nerves signaling the power to be used.
Power Sensing
Lincoln also has the ability to sense the presence of powers within other mutants, which makes him able to familiarize himself with the sensation of powers and therefore, identify them.
LIMITATIONS:
(Power Suppression)
- It's possible to break free of the power - as mentioned above, it's a battle of willpower (and the strength of the user plus power), but there is other ways of breaking free as well. Such as rendering Lincoln unconscious or breaking his focus.
- Lincoln cannot storage or in any way remove someone's ability. He can only suppress/negate it. The moment he stops using his ability against someone, their power will return, though it varies from mutant to mutant (and their individual power) how quickly and how much comes back at once; some people feel it being a burst of power, whereas others will feel it slowly return.
- The more skilled and mentally strong the receiver is, the more focus the ability requires. Lincoln still needs to focus in on the individual and it only works through a certain range; line of sight.
- In theory, Lincoln can only use his ability on one person at a time, thus putting all his focus into it and rendering the user unable to use their power - though, he has the ability to divide his focus onto more people, but this would also lessen his ability to do so fully. The more people = the less effect his power has.
(Power Sensing)
- Lincoln needs to be familiar with a power in order to properly name it. He can't sense a brand new power he's never sensed before and automatically identify it. It takes effort and studying; he is better at recognizing powers he has been in contact with before as opposed to new ones.
- Power sensing is an active power that cannot be turned off. He will always sense the presence of powers nearby, though, it is possible to be tuned out to some degree.
- His sensing is limited to distance; he can only sense the power of people who are close by. He is limited to approximately to less than half a football field.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Physical and mental straining; the power takes a lot out of the user. Therefore, Lincoln needs plenty of rest and sleep.
- Headaches can be a cause of the constant focus the power requires. The more focus, the worse the headaches grow. They can even lead to migraines that turn to nosebleeds, nausea and eventually brain bleeds.
- Because of the physical and mental strain, Lincoln often feels easily agitated, annoyed and even restless. Another cause of the strain is a high metabolism and often feeling hungry.
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 5'11"
HAIR COLOR: Dark brown.
EYE COLOR: Blue.
MISC: Lincoln wears glasses when reading and has a few too many cardigans and blazers in his closet.
PERSONALITY: A little odd and a little shy, Lincoln has gone through most of his life being called precocious, which in truth, isn't wrong. He is very reflecting, but also distant. His distance can often be confused with coldness, though it's more a state of constantly being distracted by his own mind. The few times anyone is able to retain his full attention is during sessions.
Albeit very sensitive, Lincoln has a hard time expressing his feelings. He's easily mistaken and people often gets confused by his demeanor. Still, Lincoln loves to laugh, though like everything else, his humor is a tad off, often considered tacky and odd, perhaps even morbid at times.
Lincoln often gets lost in his own head and he absolutely hates conflict. He will shy away from any fight, verbal or physical directed towards him. Lincoln enjoys spending time alone and is a true introvert at heart. He doesn't enjoy drama of any kind and only has a handful of people he actually considers friends. He feels extremely shy and awkward around new people and becomes easily flustered and clumsy.
Although he has a great understanding of the human mind, he doesn't easily connect with others on an unprofessional level.
SECRET(S): Despite having a well-known fascination for the morbid and darker themes, Lincoln did tear up while reading the Fault in Our Stars - he'll never admit to this, of course.♦ THE HISTORY ♦
Lincoln grew up right outside of Dublin, Ireland to Irene and Douglas Fitzpatrick. When Lincoln was three months old, his father died in a scaffolding accident while at work. His mother didn't tell him much of the how and what, but Lincoln had enough imagination that he didn't really need to ask. His mother raised him on her own, with good help from neighbors and friends. Lincoln also spent great portions of his childhood with his grandparents while his mother was off working evening shifts to cover the bills.
Despite his somewhat nontraditional living conditions, Lincoln had a great childhood. He didn't have a whole lot of friends, since spending a lot of his time around adults, he was often seen as precocious and had a hard time fitting in with the other children.
Lincoln was a quiet child, spending many hours of his days with his nose dug deep into a book. He didn't particularly enjoy the outdoors and preferred spending his time inside, wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of homemade warm chocolate in one hand and a book in the other. His mother worried as all mothers do, and did what she could to socialize her young son.
It wasn't until the age of eleven that Lincoln was truly forced to interact with others his own age. Naturally, his interaction with other humans expanded further than just his family - he still had to go to school and interact with his classmates - but this took on a whole new level when he manifested his powers merely a week after his eleventh birthday. He was at his grandparents when his grandmother was nurturing her garden, watering the plants and plucking weeks. Lincoln grabbed onto his grandmother's arm, pointing and the squirrel sitting in a nearby tree and suddenly, one of the plants his grandmother had taken care of, withered.
Lincoln was scared at first, but thankfully, his grandmother immediately understood what had happened. One (more like three) quick phone calls later and Lincoln was told someone would stop by during the next couple of days. Three days later, recruiters from St. Bethany showed up and explained everything. At first, Lincoln didn't believe them. Sure, he'd seen his grandmother do amazing things with the plants, but he'd always figured she'd just had green thumbs - he'd never once thought she was magical or supernatural.
Even so, the young boy had no choice and had to be sent to St. Bethany in England. He was terrified to leave his home and everyone he knew behind, but his family promised they'd talk and visit all the time and that he would be fine. And in retrospect, he would be.
It took Lincoln months to get used to his new environments. Suddenly, he was forced to interact with other people on a whole different level than what he had before. Naturally, he was still drawn towards the adults, but even he managed to make a few friends here and there.
The years came and went and Lincoln slowly grew accustomed to his new lifestyle. As he grew older, he developed an interest in the human mind and upon graduating, he left England for America to study psychology at Yale University in Connecticut. Thriving, Lincoln's appetite grew and grew as the years continued to pass on. During these twelve years, he experienced many new things; loneliness, love, heartbreak and a sense of self.
Once he'd graduated, he planned on continuing his aptitude for knowledge, but upon doing so, he needed a job. He applied to several jobs across the country, though without much luck. He took on various smaller jobs to cover his tuition - until finally, his grandmother called and told him there was a position open at Bellefonte Academy, St. Bethany's sister school. Lincoln went in for an interview and a week later, he got the job.
Since then, Lincoln has spent his time working at Bellefonte Academy while continuing his studies to become a psychiatrist alongside being a psychologist, all the while forging new relationships and making a life for himself in Kalispell, Montana.♦ THE PLAYER ♦
