Bo Luke Jones
FACE CLAIM:Thomas Rhett
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 20
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Homosexual
POSITION: College Student & BA Cook♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Adrenal Overload
Basically, Bo produces more adrenaline than the normal human. So while a normal human gets a bit of an adrenaline rush, say, enough to pick up a car if your child is under it, or take several bullet wounds and still save your buddies, Bo gets that to a much greater degree. The greater the rush, the more and more adrenaline that pumps into his system. While this happens, he gains the benefits that most people get from the same: his strength and durability increases dramatically, and he can withstand a great deal more damage. Given the extent of Bo’s ability, he can reach superhuman levels, essentially “hulking out” while under the effects of the adrenaline.
Furthermore, he does not necessarily have to get into a fight in order to experience this. He still gets adrenaline rushes from what normal people do: extreme sports, sex, and the like. His ability will kick in under those circumstances in addition to more combat oriented circumstances.
LIMITATIONS:
- Bo’s ability is essentially based on if he can produce adrenaline; if he cannot, he's as helpless as the rest of the world.
- When the adrenaline rush is over, Bo is left feeling more or less like a normal human. Since he produces far more than is average, this can mean extreme crashes, particularly if he sustains a good deal of damage or utilizes a lot of strength. (this can go as far as pulling/tearing muscles or sustaining permanent damage, which has happened to Bo before; usually in the form of broken bones).
- The amount of increase in strength/durability/speed is in direct proportion to the amount of adrenaline poured into Bo’s system. He can get to “super” levels with the ability, but too much push for too long and he will poison himself (see side effects)
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Given the extreme nature of the rushes, it’s an addiction. Even though Bo fights it, his body is still naturally inclined to being addicted to adrenaline rushes
- Extended use will result in adrenaline poison. This would take a lot more use than Bo does on a daily basis, but it will become an issue with more use or down the road
- Extended use over a short period of time results in issues with anger management. The more the power gets used, the shorter the temper.
- It takes a while for the adrenaline to leave the system, depending on how much. This means that occasionally Bo can be too jacked to sleep easy at night
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 178 cm
HAIR COLOR: Dark Brown
EYE COLOR: Hazel
MISC: he’s actually got an ear pierced (he forgets which one; it’s the left). He’s got a tattoo on an arm that’s a set of coordinates; his sister has the matching set.
PERSONALITY: If you first meet Bo, almost regardless of how you treat him, he’s going to smile and be friendly, often offering a handshake and his name. There’s an old-fashioned feeling to his memories and his way of speaking, which his Southern accent serves only to emphasize. He really does believe in a hard day’s work, that Iced Tea tastes great on a hot day, that country music is the best, and various other country-isms.
He’s long on patience and tolerance. Plus, he’s well aware that most people take “gay male” to mean “potential gay best friend,” so he tries his damnedest to try and fill that role. He sucks at being sassy though, and his idea of fashion begins and ends at “those shorts make your ass look hot.” He will help if asked, and he mostly finds attempts at pigeon-holing him amusing.
When his patience finally snaps, look out. He’d always had a volcanic temper even before his power manifested. Now when he explodes, he usually breaks things. He’s been in the infirmary a few times for shattered hands and doing other things to himself, usually as a result of hammering something he shouldn’t. It usually takes a bit to push him to this level, though he’ll be almost a maiden aunt when it comes to manners.
He also genuinely loves to cook and is happiest in the kitchen, where he shows remarkable creativity in preparing Southern style dishes. He can also sing fairly well and play guitar, but it’s a hobby and not anything he wants to turn into a profession.
SECRET(S): oddly enough, his family doesn’t know about the cooking thing. Outside of that, most of his “secrets” have been outed at this point.♦ THE HISTORY ♦
The Jones family were a pretty standard Georgia family, really. Sure, there were a handful of them, four kids and two parents and a few relatives that lived close by, but they were all the good sort of folks. People in town knew the name “Jones,” and knew that it meant good, salt of the earth folk who believed in good old values like a hard day’s work and keeping the Sabbath and that a good meal should be shared. The kids were raised up right, with just enough room to go out and get muddy and in trouble. Bo just happened to be smack in the middle of the brood, with a couple of older siblings (including at least a brother), and a few younger. He got used to having people around.
In many ways, Bo was headed straight down the path of most of his hometown. He’d been doing great in sports, got the attention of the pretty blonde girl that lived down the street, had a part-time job at the local grocery store, everything was looking pretty good. Oh, sure, he did spend a fair bit of time in the kitchen helping out his mother, but that was just what good boys did around home. Nothing to worry about.
Then around the age of thirteen, fourteen or so, things started to change. It wasn’t sudden, not like a sudden manifestation of mutant powers or anything like that, oh no. See, Bo had always been a little… put off by girls. Not that he minded their company, and a good Southern gentleman is always polite to the fairer sex, but he just didn’t quite see the appeal. Supposedly he had one of the hottest girls in his class as his girlfriend, but it didn’t just feel… right. Instead, Bo found his head turning more for his best friends than his girlfriend, something that she noticed (and wasn’t thrilled about).
Fast forward a few years. Bo’s just starting high school, doing great for a kid his age. He’s got the size to play ball, loads of friends, and a cheerleader girlfriend. Okay, yeah, he was taking home ec classes like they were going out of style, and he loved the food channel, and sure, he spent time with his guy friends, but that was just normal. There was also the time in the woods by the creek, but they weren’t allowed to talk about it. Then one day, Bo was helping set up the gymnasium for a fund raiser. They’d been lifting things, and it turned out that his girlfriend had heard about that time at the creek with that guy. They’d started fighting and Bo had lost his temper (this did happen). Not wanting to hit a lady, he instead hit a nearby table.
When it broke in half, folks knew something was up.
His parents were worried, but then again, he was a big guy, especially for his age. So maybe this was just that. Two weeks later, when the recruiters came, it became all too clear that Bo was a little more above normal. He was then whisked away to Montana. His folks weren’t thrilled, but they couldn’t stop him nor could they follow. Bo, on the other hand, was privately thrilled at the prospect. The pressure to be something he wasn’t had fallen off, and maybe here, he could be “normal” in his own way.
A few years later, and Bo was trying out dating other guys for the first time. He sucked at it, but word eventually got out (he was still cute after all). That word got back to his folks, who immediately cut him off (as did one of his siblings; another’s too young to care, and the third’s on Bo’s side). The Southern boy originally didn’t know what to do, then he remembered sayings about life and lemonade, and he figured since someone already stomped on his lemons, he might as well give it a shot.
So he stayed at Kalispell. He was always a little rusty with his power anyway. He’s been trying to continue his education, but life keeps getting in the way, making gathering credits a much harder task than it should be. He’s all but putting down a full time job as one of the school’s cooks, but the hands on experience he’s getting is starting to impress people. He’s also still figuring out the whole dating guys thing, since all his experience and know-how has to deal with being a Southern Gentleman, and he’s not sure how the rules transfer. So despite being a handsome young man in college, he’s still figuring things out. But really, aren’t we all?♦ THE PLAYER ♦
