Riley Liam Coleson
FACE CLAIM: Hayden Christensen.
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 21.
GENDER: Male.
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: Security Official and Recruiter♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Tracking
Riley has the ability to locate another person or object anywhere they/it might be by tapping into the psychic residue everyone and everything leaves behind.
Imagine that you're looking for a person or have lost an object, Riley will be able to find what you're looking for. The power works sort of like a key finder, without the beeping. When tapping into the psychic residue, he can feel the sensation of the object/person and feel a sort of pull towards it. The closer he is, the stronger the pull.
LIMITATIONS:
- If tracking a person, Riley needs to know their name and their basic appearance (Seeing a photo will do), or touch something that belongs to the person he's trying to find.
- He cannot track himself though, and thus doesn't always know where he's located.
- The further away the object or person is, the harder it will be for Riley to find it, and the weaker the 'signal' will be. Also, with tracking being such an obsessive compulsive kind of power, he will in the end, find it.
- Objects or non-moving people are easier to find, seeing as how they stay in one place for a longer amount of time. If moving, it may mess with the signals, which can send him to the wrong place before being able to 'sense' the new signal from the new location.
- He needs a basic description of the object he's looking for in order to find it. If someone tells him to look for a pencil, and doesn't give any other information about it, he'll locate just about any pencil.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Headaches that can develop into migraines.
- Fatigue.
- If overusing his ability, Riley can become disoriented.
- His ability can cause fits of paranoia.
- OCD: Once his mind is set on finding something/someone, he has a hard time tossing that notion away. The urge to keep looking usually overpowers the will to give up.
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 6'1"
HAIR COLOR: Sandy blonde.
EYE COLOR: Blue.
MISC: He has a tattoo of his sister's name across his left collarbone. Underneath it a text reads, "unconditional. absolute. indisputable."
PERSONALITY: Riley is blunt and more often than not, comes across as aggressive and volatile. Now, I'm not saying that he isn't, because he is, but there's a little more to it than that. Riley is as close to being a sociopath without actually being so; It's not that he lacks fundamental emotion, it's just that he doesn't necessarily process nor understand it the same way most others would.
To him, an apple is just an apple and it holds no greater meaning or purpose than that. Life isn't some kind of fairly tail where good things magically happen. If you want something good, you're going to make it so yourself. But then again, people and life are shitty in general, so why bother? Stuff doesn't happen to you - you happen to stuff.
He's extremely cynical for his age and doesn't befriend nor care easily about others. He sees people as opportunities (or more accurately; pests). He's rude and doesn't apologize for it. Disinterest in well, anything - or anyone for that matter, breeds a cold, almost dark aura that most (smart) people would do good in avoiding.
Although not necessarily violent, Riley sure does give of the impression of being able to kill someone with a glare. He doesn't like you, he won't like you and there's no point in trying. You'll more than likely just annoy him and as such, receive a verbal onslaught.
Riley is grumpy, brooding and has a morbid sense of humor. He's usually drawn towards the darker schemes in life and finds a sort of kinship with the darkness. However, when Riley first do care about someone, he's fiercely overprotective to the point of obsession. He can be dominant and almost controlling - all the while trying to prove how much he doesn't care.
SECRET(S): His mother is a lowlife drunk - something which Riley doesn't like discussing with anyone. He also takes care of his baby sister, Willow.♦ THE HISTORY ♦Trigger warning: Alcoholism.
Born and raised in Kalispell, Montana - Riley was born to his mother Rebecca and father Harrison. His family life was dysfunctional, but at the time, Riley was too young to really process the true meaning of it. To him, it was normal to have parents argue and scream at each other. He found solace in his own company and as such, started a introverted and disinterested presence within the young boy.
When Riley was six, his baby sister, Willow was born and as such, Riley experienced a whole new emotion; unconditional love for another human being. Willow was the apple of Riley's eye and he spent his days making sure she got everything she possibly wanted.
Around the time Riley was eleven, Riley's abilities manifested. His mother, whose father had been a mutant didn't take the news overly hard, but Riley's father on the other hand was furious. Having lived his entire life in Kalispell, he knew about the existence of mutants, but there was no chance in hell a child of his was going to be an abomination, so Riley's father took the easy way out, packed his stuff and left.
Within a few days of his initial manifestation, Riley was recruited to Bellefonte Academy. And as such started Rebecca's drinking problem. She started placing blame on Riley for Harrison leaving and although Riley still lived at home, she also blamed him for leaving her for the academy (although Riley didn't have much choice in the matter).
As such, Riley's life continued. He lived his two lives separately, one at school where he mostly kept to himself and one at home where he took care of his baby sister and mother.
Thankfully, as Willow grew older, she didn't manifest any abilities, which thankfully, didn't make her another source for their mother to draw spite from.
Eventually, Riley graduated high school. Instead of getting a college degree, he applied for a job within the security field at Bellefonte. His powers allowed him to become rather helpful, though, most of the time, his job entailed tracking students down - especially the ones who tried running away.
After a year of working as a security officer, Riley was offered the chance of becoming a recruiter. At first, he declined. He didn't want his time being taken away from home more than it needed to, though, as he realized that Willow was growing older and having a life of his own and his mother not being able to hold a job, he accepted and started his recruitment training.
His new job as a recruiter allowed him to travel and see the world in a way he'd never had the chance to before. He wasn't always the best at connecting with the newly manifested mutants, but at least he could track down those who thought that running away was the better option.♦ THE PLAYER ♦
