POWER: Power Suppression and Power Sensing
Power Suppression
Adrian has the ability to suppress the powers of other mutants within a certain range. This means that while Adrian focuses on someone's ability, they won't be able to access or use it. The more focus Adrian is able to place, the better she is at suppressing it. This is usually a process that is fought out through the power of will - at least if the receiver doesn't want their powers suppressed. Adrian places a sort of "wall" against the connection of the nerves going from the brain to the rest of the body, and thus, temporarily stopping the connection the brain has to the nerves signaling the power to be used.
Power Sensing
Adrian also has the ability to sense the presence of powers within other mutants, which makes her able to familiarize herself with the sensation of powers and therefore, identify them.
LIMITATIONS:
(Power Suppression)
- It's possible to break free of the power - as mentioned above, it's a battle of willpower (and the strength of the user plus power), but there is other ways of breaking free as well. Such as rendering Adrian unconscious or breaking her focus.
- Adrian cannot storage or in any way remove someone's ability. She can only suppress/negate it. The moment she stops using her ability against someone, their power will return, though it varies from mutant to mutant (and their individual power) how quickly and how much comes back at once; some people feel it being a burst of power, whereas others will feel it slowly return.
- The more skilled and mentally strong the receiver is, the more focus the ability requires. Adrian still needs to focus in on the individual and it only works through a certain range; line of sight.
- In theory, Adrian can only use her ability on one person at a time, thus putting all her focus into it and rendering the user unable to use their power - though, she has the ability to divide her focus onto more people, but this would also lessen her ability to do so fully. The more people = the less effect her power has.
(Power Sensing)
- Adrian needs to be familiar with a power in order to properly name it. She can't sense a brand new power she's never sensed before and automatically identify it. It takes effort and studying; she is better at recognizing powers she has been in contact with before as opposed to new ones.
- Power sensing is an active power that cannot be turned off. She will always sense the presence of powers nearby, though, it is possible to be tuned out to some degree.
- Her sensing is limited to distance; she can only sense the power of people who are close by. She is limited to approximately to less than half a football field.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Physical and mental straining; the power takes a lot out of the user. Therefore, Adrian needs plenty of rest and sleep.
- Headaches can be a cause of the constant focus the power requires. The more focus, the worse the headaches grow. They can even lead to migraines that turn to nosebleeds, nausea and eventually brain bleeds.
- Because of the physical and mental strain, Adrian often feels easily agitated, annoyed and even restless. Another cause of the strain is a high metabolism and often feeling hungry.
♦ THE FREEFORM ♦Trigger Warning: Underage pregnancy."You sneak in through my bedroom window. You say you don't think you were followed.
You look like hell, but I don't say a word,
and I dry your tears with my favorite t-shirt."
I used to think of myself as so sensible. I used to think of myself better and superior to those who got into trouble. I rolled my eyes when I saw them walk down the street with their baby bumps and faces that held no experience - no wisdom.
And then it happened to me. Suddenly, my entire life was turned upside down and I was fourteen years old and pregnant.
You'd think the only sensible thing to do was get rid of it - either by abortion or adoption. The two scary A's.
But then the unexpected happens; Your mother asks you to keep it and tell you she will help you. She will be there.
And suddenly you're forced to grow up way before your time and take responsibility for a child while you're still a child yourself.
And then you're the one everyone rolls their eyes at and judges."If they're gonna try to make you bleed, they're gonna have to come through me.So let them come and try to cut you down.teeth will roll and hit the ground."
I really didn't think it was possible to ever love someone as much - I mean, I know it sounds like such a cliche, but really, it's such an alien feeling, holding your baby in your arms for the first time and looking into their innocent eyes.
And then you realize, deep inside, that you want those eyes to stay innocent forever.
It's in times like this that you truly realize who were your friends and who weren't. You're suddenly overcome with this other-world view of your surroundings.
And you understand.
Love is unconditional."Throwing rocks at our bones, wellI've got rocks of my own."
See, you never think these things will happen to you. You're eleven years old and find out you're not normal. You're a mutant and you're going to leave home to go to a school you've never heard about before.
And then your life changes again three years later. Though, in hindsight, you realize it might have been the best thing that ever happened to you.
The father doesn't want anything to do with your baby and you learn to understand that it's fine.
It's his loss.
You get to keep this precious little gift all to yourself.
You can do it.
You have to."You know I never asked for this.He put his own name on my list.Fists are pounding on the door,I warned him about this before."Somehow, he changes his mind. Your baby is growing up and turning into such a beautiful young mind. And suddenly, he wants everything to do with it.
He wants to visit.
He wants to buy gifts.
He wants to be a part of your child's life.
You gave him a chance before and you're willing to do it again.
It's the best for your child.
But then he starts taking and expecting more. He starts pointing out everything you've done wrong and everything he would do so much better.
You don't want to hear it. Because you've fought so hard - you've gone through so much - and what did he do? He ran. He wants to fight for your child - he wants to own it as if this tiny little human that you created is a possession - a prize to be had."When they come looking for you, then I'll be ready to fight.I'll cross the wires, I'll break the lines."
So you fight.
You fight with all your might.
And you win."They’re throwing rocks at our bones
Well we’ve got rocks of our own."
And then your child becomes exactly like you - well, not exactly. But you're the same kind. You share the same DNA, blood and potential for greatness.
You couldn't be more proud.
So you do everything in your power to be there for them. To make them feel safe.
And that is when you turn a degree into a job.
That is when you once again learn that love is unconditional.
And filled with passion."Do you know how much I love you?"♦ THE PLAYER ♦
