Sage Abigail Harlow
FACE CLAIM: Holland Roden.
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: Twenty
GENDER: Female?
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
POSITION: College Student - Art student♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Psychometry
Sage has the ability to understand the "life story" of an object by using her senses around it. This means that by hearing, tasting, touching, seeing and smelling she can pick up "residual energy" from the object. Her power works very much like a mind reader's does, as she can read the memories of the objects she touches. She can see who the object has been with, what it has been through, how old it is, it's last location, and similar things.
These images appear like a short movie. Whether or not they include sound, smell or any of the other senses besides sight, depends entirely on the memory in question. These are often random, and more often than not, Sage cannot control what memory she picks up on, unless she has some basic knowledge about the object.
For example. She cannot pick up a random object and pick whatever memory she wants. She has to know what she's looking for in order to find the specifics. Whenever she doesn't, the memory that appear will be random.
Most of the time, Sage is in control of her ability, meaning that these memories doesn't appear every time she picks up an item or eat food. she can consciously turn her ability off and on, but that doesn't mean it's bullet proof. She has and is still experiencing memories popping into her head when accidentally touching an object.
LIMITATIONS:
- Sage's ability only work for inanimate objects; she cannot read the history of sentient things, such as humans or animals. However, there is a possibility for her to learn this in the future with a lot of practice and training.
- This ability only works through her senses, meaning that Sage has to hear, see, touch, smell, taste or touch an object to read its memory.
- Objects that are older or who have been handled and loved by people longer have a stronger psychic impact; those that are newly made or ignored are harder to read. Meaning that it's easier for her to pick up on memories of object with a lot of history, whereas the ones with less of a history has less to choose from, thus making it harder for her.
- Whenever she reads a memory, the ability suck her out of the present moment entirely, meaning that her body will freeze up and she will be hard to reach. While the memory plays, she doesn't sense anything going on outside the memory. This might last from anything between a few seconds to few minutes, all depending on the length of the memory.
- The more detailed a memory is, the harder it will be for her to properly get a read on it, as it can overload her senses, and thus cause her to black out.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- She suffers from headaches that increase in severity the more information she gleans from objects. These headaches can grow into migraines and further develop into nose bleeds and nausea.
- The more information the memory include, the quicker it'll overload her system, and can result in fainting.
- Sage often suffers from confusion after reading an object. The confusion can be anything from wondering where she is, what time it is (day/month/year). This happens especially if the memory she reads is further away from the present time.
- Can sometimes encounter issues with seeing inanimate objects as inanimate; can often end up personifying an object, as if it has emotions and thoughts of its own.
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 5'3"
HAIR COLOR: Red.
EYE COLOR: Hazel.
MISC: Sage has a somewhat feminine, somewhat artsy way of dressing. She often wears skirts and dresses - and both colors and clothes that doesn't match. Her flaming locks are kept loose and well trimmed, though more often than not, has a tendency to appear "out of sorts".
PERSONALITY: Although Sage would call herself simple and uncomplicated, mostly due to any severe experience earned throughout her short life, she is actually an incredible sensitive and emotional soul. However, due to the way society portrays emotional women, she refuses to put herself in a box where she can be branded as "crazy".
Independent and headstrong, and a little too stubborn for her own good, Sage isn't exactly the easiest person to befriend. Sure, she's quirky and charming, but also extremely odd and aloof. She's equally afraid of being judged as she is of what people think of her - which she hides behind a mask of "oh, I'm such an edgy artist, I don't care about what they think". Trust me, she totally cares.
The stage and the art studio (as well as the solitude of her bedroom) are the only places where Sage feels like she can truly be herself, which is ironic, given that being on stage means pretending to be someone else, being in her bedroom means hiding away from any prying eyes and being an artist means not always getting to paint what you really want to.
But of course, Sage is "simple" and "uncomplicated". Totally edgy, right?
But hey, at least she's totally comfortable trying out new things and getting out of her comfort zone. Harr, harr. As if.
Try paranoid, over emotional, stubborn and prideful. Much more fitting and much, much more honest.
SECRET(S): Sage is not really "simple" and "uncomplicated", but I don't think that's much of a secret, so N/A.♦ THE HISTORY ♦
Sage Abigail Harlow was the product of a teen pregnancy. Her mother got pregnant during her last year of high school and never let Sage forget it. Despite her parents obvious indiscretions, they were both loving and caring and tried their best to make both parenting and their marriage work. Sage's parents got married at eighteen, fresh out of high school and with a newborn stopping them from doing everything eighteen year olds most wanted to do; have a life.
Her parents made the best of what they got. Between working part time jobs and her father going to evening college classes, they both received a lot of help from Sage's grandparents.
Sage's childhood wasn't the most standard or by any means the most normal, but she lacked very little in terms of being cared for. She had a great support system around her and as she would put it herself, thanks to her parents different situation, she was allowed to grow into herself and learn not to judge the book by its cover.
When Sage turned eleven, her powers manifested. She picked up her mother's camisole and saw visions she didn't ever think nor wish she would see. Flustered, her vision ended and the camisole dropped to the floor. Her mother walked into the room and questioned her daughter's obvious distraught, though received nothing but a muttered apology before Sage ran out of the room and locked herself inside her bedroom.
Sage was confused about what she'd seen and started questioning her own sanity for letting her apparently overly creative mind go down the path that it had. However, within a few days, a woman showed up at the house, announcing herself as a recruiter, a mutant and an academy official at a school in Montana. She called it a school for the gifted. Which to Sage, sounded more like a bad X-Men fan fiction. Sage wasn't offered a way to refuse and it became apparent that her grandmother was also a mutant, though, she'd seemingly failed to tell her family about that.
Sage felt confused and her emotions was reeling, but considering the lack in choice, she was still sent to Montana to embrace her new life.
Because of Sage's lack of knowledge about mutants before her own powers had manifested, she found it hard at first to fit in. She felt out of place and more often than not, she felt scared. So many of the kids around her had all of these physical and dangerous powers; some could engulf themselves in fire or lift giant boulders and throw them at people. And here she was, with the ability to see her parents' sex life through touching an object.
Things got better over time, though and Sage eventually found her place. She learned to love art; both in its physical and psychological form. She grew interested in drama and painting and divulged most of her time to it.
She eventually graduated college and somehow ended up taking her college courses at Bellefonte as well. Either due to simplicity or a lack of feeling adventurous. Or maybe she had grown to comfortable with her life - she wasn't really sure, nor did she really care. Sage continued onto college and studied arts.
One year away from legal drinking age, Sage is still in the middle of trying to figure herself out and decide what it is she wants from life. Or what she doesn't want.♦ THE PLAYER ♦
