Aware that she had managed to trap herself in the middle of battlefield, Max stepped atop a chair. A shrug "I don't mind...which eve-" She was cut off. Eyes flickered to what Toby was doing. Shit, I forgot those were over there. Is he trying to push all his effort there? Or is that just what he wants me to think? That crafty bastard! Taking advantage of my sleep deprived mind and not in a good way...
Feet carefully placed, avoiding the figures which stuck up like sharp tacks (or those tiny bits of lego which act as minor blades.). She shuffled a few of the figures that were hanging at the fringes to bolster those in a final line. Another quick dance across the minefield of pins and Max furthered her pincer movement, which had started to encapsulate the enemy. An eyebrow raised as Toby started rifling through a box "What are you doing?"
Toby noticed Max moving to counter his actions, and he had to smirk. The plan was going off without a hitch! Or, well, with minor hitches. Was this really a planned out campaign or were they winging it or did it even matter in the end, really? Toby didn't know, and he didn't think it mattered much anyway. They were two sleep deprived nerds looking for something to burn up time, not Civil War reenactors.
"Looking for transformers or---my God," Toby froze, looking over at Max, "it's utterly terrifying. Truly, I do not think there can be a face more evil and disgusting. Only the Japanese could have envisioned a creature so utterly horrific."
Max stared at Toby in amazement as he described the beast. But it wasn't until he pulled it out that the true horror hit her "Mein Gott! Who could think of such a horrible beast? A Böser Schurke. He...It's worse than Barney!" Max strode towards Toby, eyes fixed on the beast he held in his hand. It seemed to stare back at her, looking into the depths of her soul. She felt like the Abyss of those dark reflective eyes gazed back at her. Like some doll possessed by the devil. Or that it was in fact the embodiment of the Antichrist.
She broke eye contact with the furry tubbo of doom to look at Toby "How could you unleash such an evil across middle-ear-...wait what are we calling this land? Did you already decide?"
Toby set his face into a dour expression, nodding slowly as Max continued. "Indeed, his is the darkest of souls," he intoned, finishing Max's rant. There was a pause in which Toby swore he could hear the chimes of doom or some other ominous sound effect ringing in the background. He moved the doll a little closer to the combat.
"The library," Toby said, meeting Max's eyes. "You don't want to overthink this or anything. It's a library, a field of ideas and dreams. Why, the books might be falling over at any rate and talking to us and taking us on a grand adventure that will help us understand the importance of books and literacy and imagination!"
And with that last, Toby thrust his arm into the air. He held it for several long seconds, looking around at the books as if he expected them to start moving at any second.
Max nodded as Toby spoke, eyes widening. My god he is a Super-Nerd. I mean I know he was nerdy but this is like Super-Saiyan-God-Level-Nerdom. She moved to look exactly where he was gesturing, waiting in silence. A glance to him "Are you waiting for something or..." She shrugged, moving back to her end of the battlefield.
A finger held up, mainly in hope that it would stop Toby from saying some random spiel about books again. Max rested down on one knee, leaning her head close down to the floor. A deep breath. After a few moments her lungs ached, stomach churned. She let loose the steady stream of mist, watching it swirl across the battlefield. Jumping up she flung her hands out in front her "And so mist rolls over the field of dead bodies, signalling a fate worse than death itself."

"Well, I was kinda hoping we'd go full Pagemaster," Toby admitted, lowering his hands and looking around. "I always wanted to meet Christophe Lloyd. Hopefully before 2016 kills him," which wouldn't have surprised Toby at all, given how things had been going so far. He looked back at Max and, yes, likely would've launched into another monologue. But she paused him with a finger, and he waited patiently to see what she had planned.
"Well, that is a cool effect indeed," Toby said, putting his hands on his hips. "Seems like someone's got an actually useful power, as opposed to the ability to not need to sleep or eat," Toby nodded and started working his way around the battlefield, moving to grab the Totoro.
"And out of the mists arises the feared creature of legend..." he lifted it up slowly before shifting it, making sure to make the appropriate sound effects for his quaking footsteps.
"Yep really useful power...you should see me competively vape it's a wonder like no other..." Max raised an eyebrow at his comment about being unable to sleep, it did make a lot sense as to why he was up in the middle of night playing war games. She wondered what she would do if she couldn't sleep. Probably walk around...a lot.
A feigned cry of terror came from her as that ball of furry doom quaked forwards onto the battlefield "a creature so terrifying that grown men have been know to flee the battle at the very mention of its name" She focused on the doll for a moment, willing the most to form around it and give the illusion of it growing in size underneath a vail of mist
