While Tami had known the inevitable was coming, she still felt a little sad that she had to switch rooms at the end of last semester. Her roommates had been as quirky as she had been (and one of them louder than her and Max combined). Fortunately they were only down the hall from her (although Charlie had sort of vanished) so she could still visit. Still, there was a component that simply wasn't the same.
Plus it was a little strange to go from a nearly full unit to a completely empty one.
Tami was told she'd be getting a roommate soon, but for the first day or two it was all hers. Which admittedly she took advantage of with little remainder of her sadness left. Her powers didn't let her mope around for very long. So she was all dressed up in her pajamas watching The Ring when she finally got a knock at the door. Pausing the movie, Tami made her way over to the door (this time making sure to turn the lights on again, since apparently she'd spooked one of her friends last time). She figured it might be Max again, or at least someone she knew.
However, it was an unfamiliar face that greeted her instead of a familiar one. Gears turning, it took Tami a few seconds before the confusion on her face got swallowed up by her ability and she smiled warmly. "They told me I was supposed to have a roommate, but as time went on I thought they'd forgotten." She commented in her typical slow, calm way of speaking. "My name's Tami. Do you need any help moving in?"
Cora wasn't about to claim that she was outright avoiding going to her dorm to see her new roommate, though, it wasn't as if she had gone there the moment she'd first arrived. Most of the day she'd spent trying to get a grip of her new surroundings. Exploring and advancing herself. It had already gotten rather late in the day before she'd collected her things from the front desk and actually made the effort to find her dorm.
Once she got there, bags in hand, she realized she hadn't asked or even been told she needed to collect a key. Staring dumbfounded at the door for a moment, Cora's brows shot together and with a huff, her bags dropped to the floor. With one hand rested against her hip, she used the other to knock lightly, albeit a little annoyed, at the door.
It didn't take long before the door opened and Cora got a good look at the girl who was supposed to be her new roommate. The girl was cute, with red hair and an almost mischievous grace to her features. Cora's own features immediately relaxed as all pretenses of awkwardness was dropped. "Yeah well," she shrugged sheepishly. "At least they didn't place me inside a small room under the stairs." Cora reached for her bags, hanging one off her shoulder while carrying the two others in each hand. "Nah," she shook her head. "It's mostly just clothes and boring stuff like that, so it ain't all that heavy." She offered the girl a smile then.
The girl Tami got to greet was yet another brunette who had appeared tense for a second. Before Tami could think much of it though, she relaxed. She wasn't standing too close, was she? Although Tami knew her power didn't work that fast, so the girl had to have relaxed all on her own. Tami had to wonder just what she'd done to warrant that reaction, but she was glad. Maybe it was the pajamas?
Anyways, back to her new roommate. Who seemed to have a good enough sense of humor. Tami laughed and shook her head, making way for Cora to enter the door. "Don't worry. I'm fairly certain they only make the bad kids join Harry under the stairs." She remarked playfully. Even with her preference for horror, even she had seen Harry Potter and read the books.
Since the girl didn't want help, Tami didn't push it. Some people got very weird about that from what she'd experienced. Instead Tami gestured around their unit. "Then welcome to our unit. I believe they picked out a certain room, if I can remember correctly." Humming, Tami wandered further in. She assumed Cora would follow at her own pace. "We share a kitchen, so feel free to use the fridge as much as you want." Unfortunately Tami couldn't remember exactly which room was supposed to belong to the newcomer. So eventually she shrugged and turned back to Cora. "I can't recall which room is supposed to be yours, so feel free to pick. I don't know if we're getting anyone else, so what they don't know won't hurt them." She added with a casual shrug and hint of a smirk.
Stepping through the door, Cora placed her bags back on the floor before taking a moment to look around. Spinning in a half circle, she nodded. "Doesn't look too much different from back home," she said with a simple shrug. Then again, she suspected most boarding school dorms looked more or less the same. No point in making it more than what it was, after all. She offered the redhead a nod as she spoke before turning towards the rooms.
So, she could pick her own room? Well, she supposed it hardly mattered, given the fact that they likely looked the same. Pointing at the room at the end of the rows, she looked at the redhead. "Is that one free?" she asked, then furrowed her brows as if finally remembering, "I'm Cora, by the way." There. At least introductions were out of the way.
Wait was this girl utterly new to Bellefonte? Had Tami somehow run into another person from one of the other mutant schools? At this point she really felt like she should be keeping track. Maybe make a bingo card out of it. Nonetheless she was still smiling, if not curious now. "Pardon me for asking, but are you from one of the other mutant schools by chance?" She chanced to inquire. The girl could very well just be a very very late bloomer for all Tami knew. She could be jumping to conclusions. "I seem to be crossing paths with many others from the other academies."
Tami glanced at the door pointed to and shook her head. "That one's free." Tami assured the girl. Whose name turned out to be Cora. "Cora." Tami tested before slowly nodding her head. "That's a lovely name. It suits you." Offering Cora a warm smile, Tami glanced over at her still paused movie. Which did bring up one particular (and totally necessary) question. "I hope you like it here, though I do have one question, if you will. What kind of movies do you like?" Tami asked with a tilt of her head and a bit of a curl to her smile.
Gazing at the redhead, Cora raised her eyebrows. "I look a little too old to just have manifested, don't I?" she asked, lips pursing. However, before allowing the redhead any room to reply, she continued, "I just transferred from St. Bethany's," she added with a shrug. It wasn't as if it was a secret, though, she hadn't really heard of anyone manifesting any later than sixteen - she didn't look sixteen, did she?
Cora's gaze then followed the redhead's and she nodded. She turned back towards the redhead once more as she continued. Another nod, a smile and then a one sided shrug. "Thanks, you too." She wasn't much for small talk, though she figured it was only normal in a situation such as this. The question though, offered Cora a much more comfortable ground to stand on. Grinning, she put her hands on her hips. "Porn," she said, her voice suddenly deadpan. It only took a second though, before she offered a sheepish chuckle.
"Anything that isn't American action," she offered. "American action movies are just the worst."
