The Labradorable Derek

It had been almost a week since, Derek had taken the form of a furry four legged animal, and it was starting to get to him. The young brit had just done a few laps around the campus like normal, he had to stay in shape for the various teams he was on and though he was a little winded from the run, he still had the urge to run around aimlessly. Despite the fact that Derek had no problem socializing and shooting the breezde with others around campus while in human form, in canine form, Derek wasn't to crazy about being surrounded by people. Not only was communicating a little more difficult but while in canine mode his animal instincts weren't always in his control and there had been several embarrasing occasions, usually while he was posing as a domestic dog breed, where he found him self rolling around in the dirt or he'd let fellow students rub his stomach before he could stop himself. In those cases his classmates never failed to bring up his silly behaviour the next time they caught sight of him after he had become human once more. Those were not Derek favorite moments. Derek knew that he needed to shift at least for a little while and since it was pretty chilly out there wern't to many students out on the grounds.

Derek had decided to run back to his dorm to deposit his phone, headphones, and wallet onto his desk in his dorm. He then changed out of his newer jogging pants and t-shirt and tossed them into his dirty clothes bin and changed into some jogging clothes that had alrady been worn four times before. He knew that once he got back outside and shifted, he might not see the clothes anymore and he'd much rather lose an old outfit than a new one.

Once he was back on the training field, Derek glanced around to make sure the coast was clear. There were a few students spread out across the way doing their own thing so he felt confident that he might go unnoticed. Derek closed his eyes to concentrate and immediately felt a sharp pain radiate throught his entire body. Derek gritted his teeth as the familar pain of shifting engulfed him. It didn't take long to shift completley into a average size labadour. Derek was covered in short jet black fur, his tail wagged almost uncontrolably, and his tounge hung out of his mouth at as he panted gleefully.

It took Derek a moment to get disentanglled from his human clothing but as soon as he was free, he darted all around the field. He started off with a couple laps around the field followed up by several randoms leaps into the air which were then followed by loud jaunty barks. If no one had noticed him yet, someone was sure to soon. It was almost as if dog Derek was looking for some attention.

While Kamillia did not like to use her power because of its destructive nature, and the fact that she always seems to burn herself one way or another thanks to her pyrokinesis powers. The redhead still had to practice so she can keep her powers under control which was a lot harder for someone who had her powers then it was for someone who had say a shifting ability. Therefore she did not like practicing, but she had to mostly because she wouldn’t graduate if she didn’t.

A part of her had came out to the training field to practice her power, but another part of her just wanted to sit under a tree and play some music. While it wasn’t very smart of her to bring her guitar with her which burns very easily while maybe having the idea of using her powers, she had a feeling she wasn’t even going to use her powers today. While she did feel too lazy to concentrate on her powers, it was something she just disliked too much. For now she would do something she actually really enjoyed, and would have a good time doing.

Kamillia looked around; there was not a lot of people around. This was probably a good thing; she didn’t like too many people staring at her when she was practicing her music. While she didn’t mind an audience while on stage, she certainly minded when she was just trying to relax and enjoy herself outside of performances. Though she could have just stayed inside to practice, that way she didn’t have to worry about prying eyes and ears. The redhead did come out side to practice her powers, not her music and that is what she was going to keep telling herself. Kamillia didn’t see anyone using absurdly damaging powers like her own, or a water power, or anything that would hurt herself or ruin her guitar. This was a good sign; it meant she wouldn’t be too badly disrupted if she had gotten herself in the middle of someone’s practice run.

However, before she could find a nice tree to sit under she found quite the cute puppy. Kamillia’s animal lover instincts kick in, she just had to say hello to the puppy. Walking toward the dog she held her hand out toward him. “Hello there.” She cocked her head to the side, just like a dog would in confusion. “Where is your owner?” Just as she said that she realized dogs weren’t allowed on campus, because if they were Kam would have owned five of them by now. But if dogs weren’t allowed on campus, then where did the dog come from? “Oh!” She exclaimed, the light blub finally went on as she picked her own brain apart on how the dog could have gotten on campus. “You are a student huh? Now I feel dumb..”

 It was always an odd feeling when Derek wasn't in complete control of his actions. He Knew what he was doing, and he could see what was doing but when he wanted to go one way and had strong impulses to chase his tail it was difficult to convince his canine body to ignore those impulses. Which is why anyone in the vicininty would clearly see a young black labradore doing exactly that looking as if he was having the time of his life.

 Derek had just been able to gain control of himself long enough to end his pointless pursuit of his tail when someone had seemed to be beckoning him. He was all for heading in the opposite direction of the cute redheaded girl who had begun to approach him, but once again, his impulses had gotten the better of him and he happily ran to meet her while barking gleefully. He stopped and rubbed his head against her oyutstretched hand. Derek could see this taking place and although the dog looked pleased, Derek's insides felt like they had dissappeared altogether and he suddenly wished he had the ability to become invisible.

 When the girl asked about an owner. Derek gave her a similar look of confusion and gave a short low snort. It was his attempt to get her to understand that he had no onwer, he was a person...usually. Derek wasns't sure if she understood him or not, but she did come to the relization that he was no normal dog. At that, he barked loudly again and did a few laps around the girl. He then came to a halt in front of her, sat down and panted heavily with his tounge hanging out of his mouth without taking his eyes off of her.

Derek's human consiouness was still watching in embarassesmnet through the puppy dog eyes and was attempting to gain control of his body again. It only worked a little bit however because he was feeling a strong sense of embarrasment. He picked up his paw, placed it over his eyes and bowed his head. He would have preffered to flee but at least his labrador body was accuratley displaying what he was feeling at the moment. That was a little progress.

While Kamillia did not feel the same way of not being in control of her actions, there were at times where she loses control of her ability such as when she gets overly upset and angry. This was when Kamillia’s powers turn dangerous because when she gets angry she couldn’t really control her powers all that well, this was what had happened when she had gotten mad at her sister the first time Kamillia manifested. Kam ended up giving Maddie her sister third degree burns by pushing her on the shoulders when her power activated her hands were surrounded by flames. It was an odd feeling when your body did something you did not want it do, no matter what it was, like when she would get startled by small things she knew she shouldn’t have been scared by, like a rustle in the bushes, or jump scares in movies or video games.

Kamillia smiled at the dog as he began to rub his head against her hand. She had to stop herself from praising him like a dog since she knew he was an actual human. The girl did not think the boy would welcome the dog praising, even though he was acting like a dog. She scratched behind his ears, the dog was adorable, then again to Kam most dogs were. She didn’t realize that the boy had been embarrassed about this whole thing because he seemed to be enjoying himself, this was mostly because Kamillia did not know Derek was not in control over his body.

Giggling at the dog as he ran laps around her, he seemed like a very energetic puppy, she wondered if he was this energetic when he was human. When he sat down in front of her she smiled at patted his head. “I’m Kamillia, if you can even understand me… Just in case we ever meet again when you’re human. Then again I don’t know if I would even know who you are.” Kamillia was the type of person to talk when the other person wasn’t, which was why she kind of rambled a bit since he was a dog and couldn’t talk back. A part of Kam cared about the fact that he might not understand her, however, the other part did not care which was the reason why she talked anyways.

Kamillia dipped her head to one side again, she wasn’t sure exactly what he was trying to say, but she thought she got most of the meaning. The redhead did like spending times with animals, she thought she knew a lot about their body language. The dog looked ashamed, almost embarrassed but Kamillia did not know why. “I’m not sure if I got the body language right, but if you are in fact embarrassed I do not know why? I won’t pet you anymore if that is the reason. I could see why being pet could be embarrassing when you are actually a human.” She would try to hold back on petting him; she can be sensitive to other people’s feelings, sometimes. “I kind of wish I knew who you were. It’s like seeing an actor in a movie who looks really familiar but you just can’t put your finger on who it is, or where else you’ve seen the actor. It’s like that feeling, except I don’t know who the fuck you even are. I can’t even say you look familiar.” There she went rambling again, she assumed that if he was tired of her talking he would just run away.

Why, why couldn't he gain control over his legs. Derek would have loved to take off at a run, do a couple laps around the school then head back to his dorm. Instead though, there he was sitting in the training field letting some girl pet him and why wouldn't she. As far as she could tell, or anyone else for that matter, he was enjoying it. Nobody but him could know that his animal impulsives were overpowering his human willpower. Nobody could know that inside this labrador exterior he felt like he could very easily die of embarrassment. Derek made a mental note never to go a week without shifting again, he was sure that was the cause of his lack of control.

Considering that Derek was to busy wallowing in his embarrassment, it took him a minute longer than it should have for him to register something that Kamilla had said. He couldn't believe how often he had forgotten. It was a hard thing to remember considering he always knew who he was no matter what form he took. After realizing that no matter he did right then in there, there was a good chance that this girl would never know who he was once he resumed his human form. That fact was able to siphon off some of his embarrassment however the bit that had been siphoned off had come back in no time.

In Kamilla's defense, she wasn't sure that Derek could even understand her so how could she know that mentioning that he was embarrassed was even more embarrassing than the original reason for said embarrassment. Luckily though, as stated above, Derek took a little comfort in the fact that she might not ever know who he was, as long as he didn't change back in front of her. At that thought he felt a small sharp pain in his side, but it had gone as quickly as it came.

Despite the emotional turmoil Derek was going through, he found he didn't mind Kamilla’s continued monologue. He even felt a little bad that he couldn't talk back to her, he also felt bad that she wanted to know who he was while he wanted the exact opposite. These thoughts caused a couple things to happen at once. First Derek jumped up in an attempt to give her a quick lick on the cheek in an attempt to comfort her, definitely done against his will, and he also felt another sharp pain in his side that lasted a little longer than the last brief period of pain. "No.. I'm not... Not yet!" He thought to himself.

Kamillia smiled at the dog, she kind of wished she at least knew his name, then maybe she could find him as a human later on. After kneeling for so long her knees were starting to hurt, Kamillia inevitably sat down on her butt with her legs crossed, placing her guitar carefully next to her. Animals even wild animals have been known to love the company of humans if they were raised around them, youtube videos shows this much evidence. Which could be the reason why Derek as dog form enjoyed the attention, while Derek found it embarrassing and possibly demeaning. However, since Derek could not portray his human feelings to her Kamillia innocently thought he enjoyed being pet. Kam did not know what it was like to shift into something, nor did she know what it was like to be an animal so there was not a way for her to ever think that what she was doing was wrong. She could only assume whether or not he liked it.

While Kamillia did not know who he was, he sure did know who she was. Once Kamillia understood petting him was embarrassing for him she kind of felt a little foolish. While a part of her didn’t care, both of them would get over it and should after awhile forget the details of this events, the other part of her had sympathy for him considering she had acted a bit stupid when she first greeted him. It really did not matter if Derek was paying attention to her or not, because at this point she was only talking for her own amusement than for his.

Kamillia let out a small giggle as the dog licked her check, while it was slightly embarrassing for him to lick her at least it was innocent enough, if it was her lips he was targeting would have been a different story completely. “ Oh hey, since you are still around, do you want to listen to a song?” She grabbed her guitar and placed it on her lap; she quickly made sure the guitar was tuned right before actually playing a song. Kamillia didn’t know Derek was having issues, whatever issues they were, she figured since he was still around than that meant he was actually enjoying her company. She never realized the dog actually wanted to leave, if she would have known Kam would have left. While she would have been hurt to know the dog didn’t actually want to company she knew how to respect other’s feelings. Clearing her throat she began to sing ‘where is my mind’ by The pixies. This was the only song she knew of by them, but she knew it well. Playing music was one of the reasons why she came out here to begin with also, so maybe this was a win win. As she sang the song she rarely looked at the guitar, she was mostly looking at the ground in front of her, or at the clear blue sky above her.

Derek barked along with Kamillia's giggle and beamed up at her, or beamed as much as a dog could at least. The teenage mutant was farther away from regaining control of his body than he had been since he had transformed. His human psyche was busy concentrating, with all his might, on keeping himself in dog form. Behaving like a dog in public would be nothing compared to appearing out in the open in his birthday suit and never mind the fact that he expose who he really was. Remaining in canine form was essentially at the moment.

Once Kamillia sat down and grabbed a hold of her guitar, Derek shifted from the sitting position to laying down on his stomach. He laid his head down on the grass and his eyes darted up at the girl. He was gleefully waiting for her to begin playing. Her song, that was good but unfamiliar to him, was relaxing, or at least it was to Derek's canine side. Derek's human consciousness was still doing his best to hold his current form. Kamillia didn't get to far into her song when Derek felt another pain, that radiated through him entirely. It was much more overwhelming than the previous stabs in his side. At this Derek whimpered, and slowly got to his feet.

Anyone who looked at dog Derek would immediately be able to tell that something was wrong. He was standing funny and the expression on his face was no longer one of a over zealous puppy. Derek was very grateful that he had managed to stand despite the fact that the pain he was in was increasing. He knew that he would begin shifting soon, against his will. Apparently "no willpower" was the theme for today.

Kamillia smiled at the bog as he laid down to listen to her; however, there seemed to have been something wrong. She quickly stopped singing, and frowned. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Kam wasn’t sure what exactly was going on but she assumed it was because he didn’t like her singing. “Oh, sorry… I guess you did not like the performance huh?” While the girl wasn’t arrogant about herself at all, even if she may at times give off that she was to other people she at least thought she was above average at both singing and playing the guitar. Maybe it was the song he didn’t like, but even still she did not think that would warrant the dog’s current expression and whimpering. Maybe the dog was finally getting tired of her. While she was slightly hurt that he might not have either liked her as a person or her singing she did understand the part of being left alone.

Looking at the grass Kam decided it was her time to leave. She did not want to be around someone who might not want her around, and if the dog truly didn’t like her performance than there was really nothing else to do here. She wasn’t going to practice her powers around the dog. Giving the dog a weak smile Kamillia began to stand up. “I realize you are probably tired of me, so I’ll go and leave you alone.” With that said Kam waved at the dog then turned around and headed back to the dorm rooms.

Kamillia had never realized the dog had followed her. She was quite oblivious to the things surrounding her when she walked. Her mind was more focused on the next thing she could or should do. While she should do homework she really did not want to bother with it at the moment. Kamillia walked up the stair to the coed dorms and into her dorm room, and then walked into her room. She placed her guitar on its stand which was in the middle of her bass guitar, and electric guitars which were on their own proper stands. After putting her guitar away she flopped onto her bed on her back, with her arms spread wide looking up at the ceiling. Kamillia could make her next lets play to put on youtube, or she could hop on twitch to live stream a game. Her brain did not feel like doing anything though.
