The seventeen year old had no clue why she decided to go to the mall. Well, yes, Christmas shopping was what she had in mind to do for the day but of all the places, why in the world did her feet take her to the mall? There were of course shops and what not but after two hours roaming around there, Lara Jean still could not find anything acceptable for a gift.
She went to the restroom to answer mother nature's call. She just sat on the toilet bowl when suddenly she heard a little cat fight from outside.

It was that time of the year again. Lianne had to go Christmas shopping and that was the one thing she really didn't feel like doing but being the daughter she is, she felt an obligation to get her family presents and mail them back home before Christmas arrives.
Slumping while she walked into the mall with an evident frown on her face. As she was about to walk into another Charles and Keith store she felt her stomach grumble and hurt. It was time for that "Oh God, why does it have to come at the most inconvenient times?" she grumbled to herself before walking out of the store and into the nearest washroom where there was a fight going on.
She didn't have the time and energy to walk to another toilet and either way she couldn't hear anything. She ignored them and walked into a stall and sat down to do her business. Lianne was on her phone trying to finish up another story for the school news.
Her head was hurting due to the pressure difference and she heard all the shouting. She rolled her eyes and groaned. "CAN YOU GUYS SHUT UP?!" she yelled in annoyance.

Lara Jean looked from left to right, but obviously she could not find anyone there because there was no one in the stall with her. But there was another girl in the stall next to hers.
The seventeen year old kept quiet a little bit. She figured the girl was yelling to the girls outside, and not her. But considering that she was in the stall right next to hers, so maybe it was also intended for her. Oops.
There was silence for maybe a second, but the girls outside continued again. Though this time their voices were a little softer.
"Hah, can only release with silence hmm?" asked Lara Jean, not expecting a reply if one would come anyway.

"You do know that I'm not deaf right?" Lianne said in an annoyed tone to whoever made the remark. All she knows is that it came from her left and she rolled her eyes. People nowadays don't know how to keep things to themselves. Especially the ones who think that people need their opinions.
Taking a shit never really required silence but her ears were too sensitive to sound especially to loud ones. Lianne doesn't remember the last time she heard a sound that didn't hurt her ears or give her a splitting headache.
Whoever the girl behind the stall was, she had better have a good reason to be mumbling before Lianne puts on her earplugs again. She was clearing her bowel and trying to balance the pressure in her ears while writing her story.
Her deadline was tomorrow and she just had to finish up some stuff. Her headache was slowly subsiding but not fast enough. The back of her eyes were hurting as well and she groaned internally.

The sharp reply had the girl smacking her lips in slight embarrassment. Another oops. Her mind started going over what she had said again and again and again. Maybe she should not have said that. That might have been a little rude. Well, judging from the reaction she had gotten, it probably was. Yikes. Lara Jean had not intended for it to have sounded that way.
Any other day, the girl would have utter out an apology and kept quiet, continuing her business in silence. But a part of her then felt that she did not want to apologize for it. Was it really her fault that the other girl thought she was rude. If anything, she was the rude one.
"Well I gathered that much since you yelled for everyone to uh shut up. Plus, I was asking you a question, so I didn't think you know...uh you were deaf," she retorted back, not as confident as she had wanted to sound.

Lianne huffed at the fact that the girl had to ask. "My ears are sensitive to loud sounds. Thank you very much." she replied curtly. Her one objective when she came into the washroom was to take a shit and now, she's having a freaking conversation while she shits. What were they? Shit buddies now?
"You know, it isn't very interesting being shit buddies and talking to each other in the toilet so why don't we finish our business and talk outside?" She offered.

The curt reply had Lara Jean rolling her eyes. Wow. She sounded like she was supposed to know that already. It sounded condescending and it did not sit well with the seventeen year old. "Well...okay then." That came out short. Oh well.
Lara Jean snickered at the mention of shit buddies. She felt like a 10 year old for it. "Shit buddies, that's funny," she whispered to herself, completely unaware that the other girl was able to hear her. "Erm you're right," she said in a normal tone.
After finishing her business, the girl flushed and opened the stall. Ready to meet her shit buddy.

Lianne ignored the girl's comment and got done with her business before keeping her phone in her back pocket and flushing her shit away. Getting out of the stall and walking to the sink, she still saw the two girl bickering and sent a glare their way. "Get lost" she hissed before the two girls scurried out of the public toilet.
"Noisy sirens," she mumbled to herself as she washed her hands and scrubbed them with soap. She wondered why she even offered to speak with the girl anyway. She should have just kept quiet. Her ears are still uncomfortable without the plugs and so, she put them back in.
She continued to wait for the other girl in silence as she finished up her story.

Opening the stall door, she saw how the two girls who were in a heated discussion argument had scurry out of the restroom. Was the girl really that intimidating? Her back was facing her and she was about to find out for herself.
A small yet probably a rational part too was screaming at her to just leave and don't bother with the other girl. Who knew how it would turn out. Probably not any better than how she was with the two girls earlier considering Lara Jean did sorta interrupt her...doing her business.
Foolishly, Lara Jean did not listen to that part of her. She walked up to the sink and rinsed her hands. She noticed the ear plugs when she turned to face the girl. "Is that erm, to help with the hearing?" Lara Jean did not know any hearing condition that could be helped with ear plugs. She was curious the least.

Lianne was too busy on her phone to notice anyone come out of the stalls but she did feel a bit of vibrations from the base of her feet. When she blocks out her hearing it slightly enhanced some of her other senses like touch and smell.
Looking up from her phone to the girl she raised an eyebrow and said "You look familiar" with a nonchalant tone. Reaching out her hand she offered it to her to shake before the girl could answer. "Lianne Richards" she introduced herself as she waited for the girl the do the same.
Eyeing the familiar looking girl from top to bottom before looking back at her.

Okay, wow. The girl totally ignored Lara Jean's question. Maybe, she did not speak loud enough for her to hear. Well, the girl did have her ear plugs on. Maybe she really did not hear her. Or she was caught up with whatever was on the screen on her phone to pay attention to the girl who she had a conversation with while taking a dump.
Lara Jean pulled some tissues and wiped her hand. She tossed it into a nearby bin before turning back to shake the hand. She looked familiar? The seventeen year old could not agree. Lianne Richards. The face and the name did not ring any bells. Well, technically, she had not even seen her face properly. "Erm I'm Lara Jean," she introduced herself.
"I'm sorry. I don't think we have met." For one thing, she rarely ventured outside of school much. "Erm, you might be mistaken. I don't get out that often?"

With a neutral face she shook Lara Jean's hand. She seemed too familiar... Where was she from? "Do you by any chance go to BA?" she asked Lara as she kept her face monotonous.
Her eyes were tired from working overnight yesterday and her head was pounding a little. What seemed like a slight headache turned out to be a little more than slight but she was used to it. She took her pills and popped them into her mouth before shaking her head to clear it.
Lara Jean looked like a simple person and Lianne wondered maybe she is who she taught Lara Jean was. She knew there was someone who looked like her and was always competing to be top in their literature class. Although English Lit WAS Lianne's cup of tea.

Lara Jean's eyes widened at the mention of her school. A laughed escaped her. "Erm yeah I do actually." Well, at least that cleared some air. They were both mutants and that meant she did not of to be too paranoid about her ability.
She saw Lianne taking the pills. Her eyes got a little distracted by it and she watched as those pills went into her mouth and sloshing down her throat... Okay, stop. Get a grip of yourself! she scolded herself. Her eyes quickly averted away then.
"I'm a high school senior actually. I spend a lot of time in the library...erm maybe that's where you've seen me?" Her fingers were itching to grab her phone just so she could snap a pic of the other girl. Then she could maybe tell whether or not she had seen her before.
