Tallulah knew she shouldn’t study in her room. If she did, she’d lose her concentration fast and end up looking at some j-drama instead. She had no problem with that little obsession of hers, but it could be bothersome when she had to be on the laptop to do some actual school work. She didn’t want to end p far behind because of this. It was why, instead of doing her work in her room, she took her laptop with her and walked to the student lounge. Alone, she wouldn’t mind listening to one or two episodes. In there, where people could see it, she cared a bit more. She may accept her love for Asian dramas but she didn't want everyone to know and judge her on this.
It was incredible how you could be surrounded by people yet be invisible to them. Everyone was in small groups, ignoring anyone not part of their little circle of friends. She could sit here and no one would even remember she had joined them at all. There was also something depressing about this, but Tallulah didn't worry about it just now. What she wanted was to be around people to behave the urge to go through the internet in search of something nice to watch, not find herself some new friends.
There was someone on the couch already but she sat at a reasonable distance. Like this, if they wanted to ignore each other, this distance was their assurance the silence between them would be preserved, but they were also close enough to talk if any of them wished for it. That is, until Tallulah plugged in some earphones. She set the volume relatively low, but she still didn’t want them to hear the music she was playing. Because J-Pop was not to everybody’s taste and she also didn't want to be judged on that.
Now properly ignoring the world around her like everyone else was doing, she could start her work. What she didn’t realise was that, as the song played in her ears, she ended up humming it softly. She really listened to it too much if she knew how to sing something in Japanese. After a moment, she realised how her lips had been moving the whole time and she froze. With the music in her ears, she couldn’t be certain whether she sang loudly or not. She looked around and saw the person sitting on the couch. The others might not have heard her but the distance wasn’t big enough for someone sitting on the same couch as she did not to hear anything. She pulled the earphone off and passed a hand in her hair out of embarrassment. “Was I loud?”
