POWER: Passive Empathy:
Heather's power is that of sensing the emotions around her, this is always active and has been since her power activated when she was 12, the only brief respite she gets from the tornado of emotions that is the people around her is when she is around power suppressors or sleeping, and even then if she's sleeping intense burst of emotion can awaken her.
Imprinting: The second part of her mutation, which only activated when she was 15 is that through skin to skin contact she can either push an emotion from nearby or her into another person, and encourage it to take over. In other words, she puts an emotion into them and gives it an advantage over other emotions, this does not necessarily mean a depressed person can become happy, but it does significantly increase the chances of this happening.
LIMITATIONS:
-Heather's passive empathy has a range of about 50 yards, although she can only distinguish a particular person's emotion within 10 yards of them, unless she knows the person well in which case it's about 25 yards, generally speaking she cannot discern what a specific emotion is or where it's coming from beyond 30 yards, although they will still effect her.
-Heather has to have skin to skin contact for at least a 10 seconds to imprint an emotion on someone, and for it to be effective they have to be open to her words.
-She can also only imprint 4-5 times in a day
SIDE-EFFECTS:
-The first and most obvious side effect of her passive power is that the emotions, to greater or lesser extents effect her. As with most people, being around a happy or sad person will often incline you more towards their mood if the emotion is intense enough, this is also true with Heather. The advantage she has however as having been an early bloomer she has had time to get to grips with her power and can often focus on the happy ones and as such isn't depressed very often.
-This can also lead to a lot of confusion and quite severe headaches with her not being sure what emotions are hers, and what is coming from other people.
-Using the imprinting often leaves heather feeling emotionally exhausted or more often also has the same effect as intended for the target on herself.
-She often suffers from insomnia in populated areas due to intense emotions waking her during her sleep.
-If she tries to imprint more than 4 times a day she will get very dizzy and exhausted.♦ THE FREEFORM ♦
Hello there! I'm Heather, and this is my seemingly boring life. I'm currently 17, supposidly moving to the US soon which should be Umm.. Interesting.
I come from a currently relatively small, historically gigantic family in England called the Sutherlands. Currently we consist of my grandparents, my big brother and sister, my cat and my dog. My mother and father died in a car crash when I was younger, along with their butler. So I've been cared for by my grandparents for a long long time.
Enough of the sad stuff though, you wanna hear about the interesting bits right? Well, I'm a mutant which means I have this weird ability I was born with, like every body else at St Bethany's. My particular ability manifested when I was 12, which I've been informed was quite young for my kind.
That's not what you would like to hear about correct? You desire to know about my power. Well, simply speaking I am an Empath. This means that I can feel everyone's emotions around me, all of the time. It is a little bit overwhelming at times if I am being entirely honest with you, but not always in a bad way! I can feel the happieness and giddieness of the people that are around me, and over the years I've learned to focus on those. The absolute. BEST feeling though... Is when someone is in love. It just fills me with warmth and makes me want to skip for a mile. It is silly, I know. But romance is just soooo nice.
By 'romance' I don't mean passion. I don't like passion around me, it just feels so... Alien. I mean, It's not that I harbour any foul intentions to people who just enjoy passion, it just feels kind of.. Raw to me. Plain. You see, I feel everything around me and I have felt emotions from people having intercourse around me and it wasn't my favourite feeling.
Oh yeah, and It's also kind of cool I guess to feel what people around me feel and to be able to fit in with them by changing how I act. Oh! Also there was this really cute cat at the school for ages that creeped out like, everyone. He was really cute though and his emotions were weirdly complex... Dunno where he is though, hope he didn't get run over or something.
My favourite thing is to see people around me smile, and to know that I can tell when someone is feeling down and find the best way to cheer them up. It's what I spend my free time doing, I mean it isn't like there is anything I really do for fun. Well, I know how to play volleyball and such due to Grandmother telling me to and stuff. I can also swim decently well, but most of my time was spent studying the last few years.
That's something I never quite got, people not liking their teachers and moaning about them around the campus. I mean, I had tutors not teachers, but they are kind of the same at least, right? Oh! That's another thing about me you might not know, I have been tutored one on one since I was 4, It was meant to stop when I was 12 and going into secondary school. Aaaand then my power happened and I got reallllly bad headaches and emotional breakdowns around too many people for too long.
So I just kind of got tutored like, forever. And then I did fast track subjects for GSCE's (Which was bloody difficult, by the way) and effectively qualified A's in my AS levels a year early, so just did my A2 exams when I was 17. I mean, I spent all of my time working on studying for them and stuff, but I got good grades and that's what counts. My Grandparents think so... My siblings... Noooot so much.
So my brother is like, the black sheep of the family. He refused family help with stuff and went out and got a job because he hated feeling restricted, my sister on the otherhand is a bio-chem star and is working in the labs attached to the school on mutation research. But, point is. My older brother disagreed with my grandparents and got really mad, saying I was just a kid and should be having fun with people my age and enjoying myself.
I mean, it's silly. It's not like I don't enjoy myself... I just don't really have any hobbies that aren't reading. But yeah. They disagreed, and fought, he got really overprotective and ultimately my grandparents got really mad, so I changed the way I acted around everyone, pretending I was having more fun than I am around him and sis, and then being the respectable granddaughter around my grand parents.
And now, I'm off to Bellefonte to study and experience life in a different culture. I don't really do many sports. I mean, I can play volleyball and I'm a decent tennis player and runner. But they mainly want me to go to learn from the current young headmistresses at the academy, apparently because of my brother's behaviour and my sisters occupation I'm the next in line to lead the St Bethany's... And they don't have the free time to 'groom' me for it, so they want me to help out and shadow at Bellefonte.
It's... kind of terrifying. I've never been away from the school, and I hear there are a lot more students at Bellefonte, I'm also totally taking a part time philosphy course becuase reading and to keep my brother chilled. Don't tell him I said that though. But yeah... Off to America, got my plain ticket and my chauferr waiting for me.... Don't tell anyone I'm nervous. I need to look not... Well.
