Friday Morning
FACE CLAIM: Shailene Woodley
♦ THE BASICS ♦
AGE: 16
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Homosexual (closeted)
POSITION: High School Student - Bellefonte♦ THE ABILITY ♦
POWER: Psychometric Muscle Memory
The short version is that if Friday picks up something, she can use it like anyone before her that used it. Essentially, the idea is that an object picks up the various memories of everyone who has ever used it before. Their skill and experience gets embedded into the object in question. Normally that means that it’s just well-worn or it has grooves or something along those lines. Friday’s power can actually read the mastery within an object. It then transfers the muscle memory into Friday’s body, allowing her to mimic the same skills frequently used by the previous owner.
Friday generally picks up whoever used the object the most, though “drastic” use will sometimes result in a stronger read and mimicry. So if someone broke something or used it in an… extreme manner, then Friday will read their use first (in case of several). This is almost always an unconscious action, and she will often end up mimicking actions without fully realizing it.
LIMITATIONS:
- Friday ability is only muscle memory (at least right now). She cannot read memories or thoughts or ideas.
- Friday can only mimic something to the extent that her natural body should be able to do it. So she couldn’t pick up a weight lifter’s belt and lift what they could; she would just know how to do so]
- Friday has extreme difficulty remembering how to use something after her power goes “off.”
SIDE-EFFECTS:
- Friday has no idea whether she actually learns to use something or is just picking up the original owner.
- Items with no potential owner will cause Friday to go into something of a shock, as her brain is attempting to pick up memories that simply aren’t there. This can be fairly traumatizing.
- Friday’s ability is always on, albeit on a “light setting.”
- Friday is extremely uncomfortable touching objects, especially personal ones
- Friday has no idea whether she’s actually learned to use anything since getting her power.
- If Friday gets into a muscle memory, she will lose track of time and sometimes place
♦ THE CHARACTER ♦
HEIGHT: 173 cm
HAIR COLOR: Light Brown
EYE COLOR: Green
MISC: ears are pierced
PERSONALITY: Friday, on her own, is something of a spaz. She does not have her life together and she knows it, frequently joking about her inability to handle the simplest of tasks. She will trip over things, both conversationally and physically. This being said, she’s always tried to be almost overwhelmingly optimistic about life and everything it has to bring, believing in the best of people and the world around her. There's a very holistic approach to life there that came from her family's out there beliefs (which Friday mostly just shrugs and smiles about).
Friday will therefore often put off negative emotions until they all but explode on her, causing her to have freak out fits, sometimes even panic attacks. These don’t happen with too much frequency, but they hit her often enough that people will often notice. In addition, her awareness of her awkwardness sometimes compounds both her awkwardness and her innate anxiety about said awkwardness.
She’s a hot mess, in other words.
Despite this, she’s fairly intelligent, earning above average grades. She firmly believes in trying everything that she can get her hands on, and thanks to her ability, she’s becoming more of a jack of all trades. She pretends that it doesn’t bother her that this could be a direct result of her power, but in reality it weighs on her more and more (again, she just loves putting off dealing with her emotions until they all but kill her).
SECRET(S): there’s the whole closeted homosexual bit. This makes even less sense as her parents would probably be totally cool with it.♦ THE HISTORY ♦
Before her manifestation, Friday had a fairly normal life. Sure, her parents were far into the granola and hippie music scene, which was pretty odd for people that were raised in the nineties. Maybe it was nostalgia. They honestly did not realize that they were naming their child “Friday Morning” until they looked at the birth certificate. By then her father had been calling her “his girl Friday” with such affection that the term of endearment just sort of stuck. She’s the oldest of three children, and spent a good portion of her youth playing with them as well.
Her family was very into arts and a freespirited lifestyle. They would go out camping fairly frequently, or engage in arts and crafts together. Not that the parents completely cut their children off from television; it was just that most of the family didn’t care for that and didn’t enjoy it. This changed slightly as Friday became a teenager and started caring more about what people thought of her, but does remain.
Her manifestation was almost humorous. Shortly after her sixteenth birthday, She’d been out on another camping retreat with her father’s wellness buddies. A few of the kids had found a joint and smuggled it away from the rest of the adults. Before Friday realized what she was doing, she’d finished rolling it and lighting it, soon passing it among the children. The adults found a bunch of high children and soon watched in amazement as Friday demonstrated not only that, but a sudden mastery of guitar playing that matched their best player. This lead to quite an entertaining koombayah.
The recruiters showed up a few days later. The Morning family greeted them with brownies and open arms, listening intently to the idea of a private school. It was the fact that said school was in the Montana wilderness that finally convinced them to allow Friday to go. The rest of the family packed up and moved as well, and they now operate a wellness store in town.
Friday’s only been in Kalispell a short time, and her power’s made her super nervous about the people around her, so she hasn’t really gotten out much… yet.♦ THE PLAYER ♦
